A friend had fhe engine and he gave it to me
Kind of a long shot here, but check the exhaust manifold for leaks-shrinkage-cracks. I wouldn't have said anything until I saw what you're hauling, and good on ya for that though. Under load, a leaking-cracked-shrunk exhaust manifold can sometimes sound kind of like a rod knock. (Caveat: My main experience is with the infamous Chevy 350s, a Jeep 360 & an AMC 258. Also, a friend in Wyo with a 2007 6.7 Cummins had an OEM exhaust manifold crack on an upgrade while towing a full 4 horse gooseneck with residence. She called me in a panic, thinking the engine had blown.

As for the other stuff, to paraphrase my retired RN wife, "Nothing says that there can't be more than one thing wrong." Keeping my fingers crossed for the cheapest and easiest for you.
