Long shot post but I'm looking for parts yards in the Carolinas, LKQ and Pull A part are bare of 4th and 3rd gens. Just looking to pull a 220 or 180amp alt for my 03, but in general I would like to know if any one is willing to share any word of mouth yards.

I like to use car-parts.com to search for and locate the specific parts that you am looking for.

I also used the to find a 220 amp alternator near me.

Their interface lets you select and sort for both the year, model and conditon of a specific part, as well as US locations and/or disatnce from those locations, to search for.

There are very often people that can rebuild your old alternator and make it into a 180-220 amp. There are even DIY videos on the topic.

As to U-Pull-it yards? Sorry, I'm not in your area, but in my area trucks of any kind are a rare find

Thanks for the tip off, don't know why I forgot about car-part i've heard it before though in passing. Hopefully the vendor in Blacksburg, SC replies back. Might be getting a great deal on a 220 with 35K on it. Thank you again.

Keep in mind.....most salvage yards aren’t going to yank an alternator off of a known good engine.
I’d simply look for a Denso unit on eBay or Amazon or online elsewhere.

Aye fair point, I did ask about the condition of the pull vehicle to get a general idea of what I could be getting into; but an OEM unit with low miles would be really nice. My stock 136 lasted 227K Still functional but the bearings are going and I'd like to get some more juice for add-ons later. I'll give ebay a scan, Amazon was hit or miss for me when looking for an OEM 136 unit, they had it direct from Bosch, but then it sold out of stock from majority of the sellers with no notice as to when they'd be back in stock.

Bearings are easy peasy on alternators. Any worthy parts house could easily match your bearings once you break it down and get the number off the inboard/outboard seals.

While certainly there is nothing wrong with looking for a NIB Denso alternator at a fair price on Amazon or elsewhere if that is in your budget, IMO your statement about salvage yards does not really hold true anymore.

In short, if the vehicle is at a parts yard rather then a car lot, then just about any individual part on it is up for grabs given the right price.

If you do not believe me, please spend about 10 minutes checking out https://www.car-part.com/

and use its extremely well designed interface to try to find a part that ISN'T available from multiple used part suppliers from vehicles in good condition, some with very low miles.

Like I said earlier, you can readily search and sort by vehicle model and year, part, condition or mileage and location based on region or actual distance from you. Of course, it is also wise to perform due diligence to make sure that what you are buying is in the conditon stated by calling the yard directly and asking questions to make sure that the part is as described.

You definitely will pay a little more for a part from a good condtion, low mileage vehicle, but it is still MUCH less then a NIB part. For example, last year after spending less then 15 minutes on the website, I purchased a 220amp alternator with less then 35k miles of use from a wrecked 2015 truck for $135 shipped to me.

They yard was located about a four hour drive form me, but they were still happy to pull and ship the heavy alternator. The item arrived as described and properly packaged and I couldnt have been happier with my purchase.

FYI -- I am NOT affiliated with the car-part.com website in any way whatsoever !!!

just sharing my .02

I recently used Alternator + Starter Parts Wholesale aspwholesale.com for both an alternator and two weeks later a starter for mu 99 CTD 2500 and I am happy at this point with the results.

aspwholesale also had the parts (a diode plate) for the alternator I took off so I ordered that and brushes and now have a standby on the shelf.
