comrades - patience a bit thin. 2018 2500 just went to dealer for 5th time in 49,000 miles. engine running poorly, rough. check engine light came on. got it back just now. software update 9364 (2.0 ) part number 32350ag ....so far truck has had 1 new clutch assembly. 3 hydro units for clutch. oil cooler o rings replaced, and now this update. curious what others here have had regarding trips to dealer? ( currently have 4 fladbed trips at 190 per trip ) i live 1 hr away from dealer and going there is a giant pain in the $%^. cheers! happy fri yay :)

Sorry to hear about your troubles, but I can relate. Except for the shocks blowing out around 10k miles, my ‘14 was flawless for the first 30K miles, which was under a years time. After 30K, this truck was a nightmare til 120K miles. Not one week went by without an engine light coming on. Our parents live 300 miles away and we travel there quite often. The truck never made it the whole 300 miles without an issue. Five times the truck was towed to a dealer somewhere along the way. Over the years we limped this truck down more miles of highway than I could ever remember. I don’t think I’ve ever been so excited to run out of warranty on a vehicle before this one. Since the warranty expired last year we have not had one engine light, not one break down(until last weekend-actuator) and our mileage has gone up from 12-13 on highway to 16-20 on highway.

now Im interested... I also have been there done that with the dealer.... I hope it goes better this time, but no one repairs better than you do.. plain and simple, my truck never went back after warranty exp. but then again there was no real reason since it was on me to fix it or pay $$

What was the code for the CEL???
And, there are no other dealers closer to you???

comrade - i couldnt get the alfaobd to talk to the truck, so no code. i have the mx plus bluetooth device. i could connect and everything was good, however when the communication to the can bus was attempted it failed - always. the mxplus did work on several other of my vehicles - just not the ram. dunno why. im a caveman in some respects. there are no other dealers close to me. i live at almost 10,000 feet in mountains west of denver... and a correction to my original post - 6 times ( i forgot the silly drag link recall ) replaced the welded " repair " with a 2019 drag link couple months ago.... cheers, sir!

Brutha Chris,

Did you get with Alfa folks to troubleshoot problem? Can there be a bad security cable? Been a long time since I connected to my 2017 Ram, which doesn't require the security cable, but MX+ BT has it's own maintenance program too. If you have multi-meter, place in OHMs and check continuity on the cable... stuff happens.

Anhoo, best of luck truck becomes trouble free shining jewel.

Cheers, Ron

comrade ron - i did not get with alfa. was a little short of time. supposedly the biggest snow in 100 years is coming here ( so they say ) so i wanted to flatbed to dealer asap so i could get it back before the end of the world comes ( you should see the weather guys hyping this )... ill ohm the cable. good idea, and super easy... thank you sir! cheers!

Particulate Matter Sensor Temperature Circuit Performance

So. if they did the PCM update already, and the issue persists, then could be a bad PM sensor.

Dealer tech has a procedure through dealer connect for diagnosing this.
thanks for that info. i appreciate it. cheers!

nukem. I know this is a fourth gen problem that you are complaining about, but in my very humble opinion that is not to bad in 49,000 miles.

When my 2008, 6.7L truck was new, bought in Nov 2007. I had been back to the dealer 4 times in 13,600 miles for CEL's due to the emission system problems. I than went trouble free for an additional 5,000 miles until I was back for three more issues in 2,000 miles. It was than that the truck went under the knife for surgery. A Smarty S67 was transplanted and now everything has been great for the last 110,000 miles after surgery.

Sorry again. I think this is just a way of life now with some of the modern diesel engines.

But what has me totally confused about all of this. Is my wife's car a VW Jetta, TDI (diesel engine) bought new in 2011, has been only back to the dealer once for an emission issue. This was when the EPA spanked VW and had them update the ECM to agree with the party program! Her car is used as a grocery getter and daily driving around pick-up grandkids and so forth. Her car runs great being service once a year as VW recommends. Go figure!

P202B - REDUCTANT TANK HEATER CONTROL CIRCUIT LOW

That's a somewhat odd one to happen by itself.

I bet unless the dealer tech finds something else going on, that they will just clear it and give it back to you.

Were it mine, I would clear it and see if it comes back, but it's up to you.

comrades - it was a bad DEF pump. new one is installed. light gone, for now. this makes 9 trips to dealer in 49k. thankfully its friday. cheers ! :)

What dealer are you going to? I know it’s a long way, but get up to the Ram truck and fleet service center in Fort Collins.

comrade - the local dealer in boulder. i have read ( maybe from you ) on another thread that the fleet center is the place to go. that place is nearly 2 hrs from me - which is a big tow bill ( if applicable ) or a long way to ask a neighbor for a ride. i appreciate your recommendation however. thank you. cheers!

I believe it was me. I’m just north of Boulder. The guys at Boulder dodge are worse than useless, they’re actually dangerous. A mistake they made with my seat heater repair a few years ago caused a small fire under my seat. The guys at Longmont Ram are not much better, I had the bcm get messed up and they didn’t even know where to start. A quick trip up to Fort Collins and Jesse and Grant had the module reprogrammed and done in less than 10 mins, a simple procedure apparently if you know where to look with the witech. They are fast and efficient and I will only go to them anymore.

I’ve owned 6 Cummins trucks dating back to 1993 and I have quite a bit of experience with dealers in this area, so I hope you know that I don’t give this recommendation lightly. It’s a long drive but if you really need your truck repaired and repaired correctly, they are who to go to. Sounds like you use your truck for work, and that’s what they primarily work on is trucks for people who need them for their jobs.

YIKES! thats not good to hear on your seat mishap. you are correct on my truck being used for work. as a coincidence, i had someone recommend the longmont shop 2 days ago. the unnamed dealer in golden is not worth my time either, f y i ....based on your experience and going to those dealers since way back, ill listen to you. i do appreciate the advice. and your typing time. cheers sir! :)
