I have been in the market for a 1500 for about 1.5 years now. Finally sold my 2014 3500 and could get serious. Started including the Eco Diesel in the list and then I read a thread on here that covered all the ins and outs on it. High failure rate %, Rotating mass deaths....Enough for me to decide not to pull the trigger on one.

Thank you all so much for your contributions and experiences. May or may not have saved me a future nightmare that working 80+ hours a week, I simply can not, and do not have the time to deal with.

Oh, she's quick, the 6.4 Hemi was no slouch either until you put some weight behind it....then you miss the Cummins.

Just got done doing the programming spare keys and the popular tweaks with AlphaOBD. Trying to stay away from the JMS Accelerator box.

But somebody besides ME needs to buy a new 2020 Laramie or Limited Ecodiesel and keep me posted!!!! Funny thing is out of the half dozen folks I know with Ecodiesels, none have had a massive failure, only minor exhaust problems like all of our modern trucks.

All in all, mine wasn't bad. Just don't tow anywhere near the capacity, understand that the cooling system(s) suck, and the EGR has issues.
I got 25mpg in mixed driving, and it was about as comfortable as any truck has a right to be.
But mine spent 86 days at the dealership out of the first 14 months I had it.
FCA gave me a lemon law settlement, and the Ecodiesel went bye bye.

I know there is only like a >2% failure rate or something like that, but I really did not want to take the chance. This is supposed to be my last truck.

I’ve been following the F150 Diesel forum so far the only thing that has come up deals with Sarsh shifting. And a unexpected shutdown on a few early units but that seems to have been resolved with a flash. A few owners have high miles with no issues or failures. I know it’s still a new product only 3 years on the market but at this point the Ecco Diesel had already started to show it’s demons. Time will tell, but so far it sounds like they ( F Troop) got it right.

My local dealer won't stock them or even entertain ordering one in! Didn't hurt my feelings either way after my bad Ford diesel experience.

Ford is behind on the interior design game as well. Coworker has been a F guy for the last 15 years and bought a Rebel as he was tired of the same ol' interior. Was trading in his 7 year old F150 and the new one looked identical.

I like the captain seats layout of the Ram trucks in the Crew Cab. Been real happy with mine so far. Mileage has been on average 17 city, 22 Hwy. I did get the pedal commander. Kind of a waste of $250 as all it does is modify the PPS curve, but the Eco -4 (as low as you can turn it down) tames the throttle down to where I like it for city driving, and WOT is WOT if you need to get on it.

Diamondback cover for the trunk and a 1k# capacity home made 5' roll out tray for the bed for full access with the cover on.

Gen 3 EcoD is 80% new. Not seeing the same issues as before and a lot of guys have quite a few miles on them now.

I tow heavy from time to time and it will cruise in 8th on the interstate at 80% trailer capacity which the V8 gas engines will not do.

Once the tunes are out this summer it'll have the same power to weight ratio as a stock 2021 Cummins truck.

I briefly looked at the Ram 2500 but it's only 400 lbs. more payload than my 1500, gets 6 MPG less, and the pricing and financing is horrible on them. A guy can go with the Ram 3500 to get usable additional payload but then it's a truck that rides like a tobacco wagon when not towing. I just couldn't justify it.

The new high/low EGR and upgraded internals and turbo should hopefully prove to last a long time on the new EcoDiesel. So far I love mine. But I'm only 16,500 miles in....

No complaints here so far. I've towed the bobcat and a 26' V nose enclosed trailer full of sleds a few times. So far, the little engine has impressed me.

Do - not - tune that Engine, it is already cranked up to it's design limits to serve the power demand that Americans have.
Tune it and Tow is asking for trouble.

TDR Mantra - Repeat after me. "I am my own warranty station."

That's Cummins mentality. Cummins guys think that "tuning" means "add as much power as I possibly can without the head bolts stretching."

On these VM engines, there is a ton of room for improvement with tuning and reputable companies like Green Diesel Engineering who are operated by guys with OE tuning experience know how to crank the power up a little, while ADDING longevity to the engine and producing a cleaner fuel burn for reduced regen cycles to boot. You can actually add life to your EcoDiesel by tuning it because the factory tune is so pathetic. I'm not even a powertrain engineer but as soon as I started driving these EcoDiesels I could immediately tell that the calibration they load in these at the factory is complete garbage.
