Guys,

Looking for new rims for my 2004 Dodge 2500 4X4. Like the look of the factory rims. My question is, am able to find lot of near new 18 inch rims, will they work and fit on my truck? Have heard that up to 2018 is considered fourth generation and after that is fifth generation. What 17 inch rims, from what generation or what years truck, will work on my third generation 2004.

Any interest in take offs from a 2005? Ran for two years then removed and stored inside. Never saw salt. Steel with clad chrome and center caps. Located in SC.
 
You will be able to fit the newer 18’s, and 18’s have much better load ratings than similar sized 17’s.
 
The offset is odd on a Gen3 with Gen4 Wheels, it puts the Wheels inward by about half an Inch.
And like mentioned before, no Freespin Hubs with Gen4 wheels.

I'm trying to understand this. The factory 2004 17" wheels as listed below have an offset of ET43 and ET45 while the factory wheels 2011-2018 17" wheels have similar at ET42 & ET43 .2 and the 2011-2018 18" have ET 57.15. Wouldn't that put the 18" wheels about a half an inch outward ( away from hub face ) ?

Nope, it is measured from the center point of the rim, so a 0 would be center, no offset in any direction.
ET +42 means the flange is 42mm out of center to the outside of the wheel.
The higher the number is the more it is away from the center in any direction.

I don't think they had +42mm after they put on the new axles in 2011 or so, the 52mm compensated for the wider axles.

An as mentioned, go 18", way better tire selection there as 17" seems to decline on the market.

I went with the NV 305 HD ,this is the 4500lbs version of the standard 305.

It comes with a +18mm Offset that fits just nice in our Gen3 Trucks as it is a 9" wide rim compared to the 8" stockers.
It means the inner edge of the rim is almost at the same spot that way.

So, no Spacers were used.

Does anybody know the offset of the newer 18" steel wheels ? I'm interested in upgrading to these from my OE 17x7.5 steel wheels, but wanting to mount larger tires am concerned that the offset will be same as newer 18" aluminum wheels resulting in everything moving approximately 1/2" closer to center of truck. I also have Spyntec hubs so I need a wheel with larger center bore. I've attached a good graphic of the current Mopar truck wheel offerings which easily distinguishes between different center bore sizes. First three would support spinfree kits I think.

Not sure what the 14+ rim offset is but I used this when I was looking and change my wheels on my 04 from the OEM 17s to 18x9 @ +19mm which was a inch wider and put me an inch farther out that stock, which lined up really nice with my fender flares (not sticking in or out):cool: I wanted to put the 18' Laramie wheels on it but was told the offset as @Ozymandias said was farther in so it was counter productive to what I was wishing to achieve... I have also heard about clearance issues but they are likely on the extremes

I have the stock chrome steel 18” rims off a 2018 on my 2003. They fit and work just fine.

If there’s an offset difference from the 17s, I can’t tell by looking.

Thanks for answering. I asked somebody selling recent ('19?) OE chromed steel wheels from their truck to measure the backspacing. It wasn't printed anywhere on wheel like it is on my '04 OE steel wheels. They measured 6.75" backspacing and seeing 8" wide wheel this means 2.75" ( 69.85mm ) offset which even accounting for some error would mean that wheel is certainly getting closer to center of truck. Perhaps fine for original tire sizes, but I'm looking to run larger.
 
Mine are wearing 275 70s with no issue, and had 285 75s before with no rub. 315s I think will still be good, but I have offset control arms just in case.

I think any AT will work. MTs have bigger shoulder lugs that might cause issues.


I think you’ll be fine man, up to 35s at least.
