Hey all,
So I got my new to me 2018 3500. As part of the licensing, I needed to get a weight on the vehicle. The truck has an A.R.E. toolmaster HD topper on it and a Buckstop bumper with a 16k winch. Nears as I can tell, these should total 400#’s for the bumper/winch and 300#’s for the topper.

I am trying to find the off the line weight from the factory. Is it shown anywhere on the truck or window sticker? The payload is 4069#’s. Am I to simply do the math and subtract that from the GVWR?

Is anyone surprised this thing tips the scale at a flat 9200#’s with a half a tank of fuel and me (200#)?

Laramie package, 4 door crew, 4x4, Aisin trans. I am hugely impressed. 19.1 mpg over a 1345 mile trip - hand calculated.

Thanks,
Scott.

My 18 DRW weights 9160 empty so with the extra stuff on yours and dropping the training wheels 9200 sounds about right.

According to the 2017 Towing Chart a truck like yours is 7972 before options so the Laramie is going to be heavier and adding the other stuff you have puts 9K in line with the expected weight. The 2017 guide puts my truck at 8314. I'm 230 so the Big horn package and other stuff like a drop bar puts my Big Horn close to 1K off stuff over a base truck.

Why don't you just take it to a CAT scale and get a true weight?

The scale was near my office…
Yep, the CAT scale is what I intend to do. I can get both steering and driving axel weights.

I appreciate the feedback!

My 2018 weighed 8550 with 3/4 tank of fuel, a little luggage, and me in it the day I bought it. Split was 5250/3300.

Now with the 55 gallon tank, bed liner, front receiver, and running boards it’s 5420/3540.

Sticker payload is 4,094, so she weighed 8,206 at the factory.

My 2014 weighed in at #9300 on scale at stone yard. That was with 1/2 fuel, about 40 gals in 100 gal L shaped transfer, steel cross bed tool box with around #200 pounds in it and me @ #240. I though I'd be a bit heavier than that! I think we all should go across the scales to know where we are on weight. Next time I go down that way, will see how busy they are to get axle weights. Way to busy the day I was there to hold them up. Just had the chance to drive out across scale after getting some pricing on materials they have.

Quote - “I think we all should go across the scales to know where we are on weight.” I agree with this and is why I appreciate this forum and you guys. It is a special group that wants to really understand the extents and limitations of these trucks.

I expected my 3500 to be heavier than my 06 2500 with topper, was just surprised it was so much heavier.

I have read and been told how much more I would appreciate the newer truck. I haven’t pulled with it yet, but will a bit today and will pull as heavy as I intend to in September.

Thanks All!

Your weight sounds about right. My 22 SRW 3500 HO Limited with a diamondback cover comes in at 8780 with about a half tank and me in it.

Hit the CAT scale the other night, 9260#. Steer axel was about ~5400#, drive was ~3860#. Weights are close, but approx.

So here is something else that has me curious. This was a Washington state truck originally, so I offer this for context.

Check out the markings on the door label. Anyone seen anything like this before?

Thanks!

Should be on the title or in the computer already.. seems odd.

I suspect Taxes and GVW mim registration will be based on your scale #

California states the curb weight supplied by the manufacturer with 5 gals of diesel. It's on our registration. That's all they can ship it with per DOT regulations.

In WA they use the scale weight X 1.5 for the minimum amount of GVW "road tax weight" you can lic it for. rounded up of course. and you pay that rate forever basically.
Typically that scale weight is on the title already or MSO, especially for completed vehicles so I think most of us are surprised they want that weight - don't already have it.

you might not care and it might not matter but typically the wisdom I have heard is you take your truck on a diet for this scale weight. Buddy had to do this for his Tool truck "Cornwell" so before he loaded up 80k in tools and epic low on fuel went and got the scale slip, think he ended up at 24k lbs licensed weight but I doubt loaded he was ever that light.

Think my truck at 7250 off the showroom floor had never been that light sense..

Hey All,
Thanks for the responses. I appreciate the guys offering the feedback on weight in Washington and California. I am not in either state (in Colorado). Since I have gotten over the surprise of the weight, I was trying to see if anyone had seen or had insight on what was written in marker on the weight sticker.
It’s all good, it’s licensed in Colorado, I’m really liking this new (to me) truck, and do appreciate all the input/feedback.
Thanks!
