Diesel 85 poster a mopar insider video. The guy talking mention this is a problem in the aisin 2022 he owns. Never heard of it and doesn’t seem anybody else has also just cause it’s on the internet doesn’t mean it’s true

Lots of information on it at other sites, the majority of the failures were built in the August-November 2022 timeframe.

You lose 1-4, but 5-6 and R still work. With the current dealership knowledge a repair is more likely than a trans replacement.

There is a CSN for the vast majority of the effected trucks.

My trans is an April 2022 build and my truck is not listed under the CSN. I’m not the least bit concerned.

Certainly glad you chimed in John. Don’t really know when mine was built but at almost 23 k miles now it shifts like a dream. No issues .Also I have a warranty and max care no worry’s

The build date of your truck is on the door sticker and the date code for the transmission is part of the serial number. The serial numbers are on a blue tag on the side of the trans and read something like 2D-1001. 2 denotes 2022, D is the 4th month, and 1001 is the production number that month.

I'll point out that my disregard for the AISIN is that it doesn't shift as well as I like it to in some circumstances and I wish it had two extra top end gears to make it an 8 speed.

Just my humble opinion and wants and wishes. :)

Not that it's a bad transmission.

Don't worry about it. Enjoy your truck and drive it.

Two top end gears would be a waste. It’s already got a double overdrive and the top 3 gears are essentially the same as many 8 speeds. The advantage to an 8 speed is a lower 1st and an extra gear between 1st and direct.

Even the 10 speeds with a triple OD have a taller gear than the Aisin.

I’ve owned two Aisin’s and driven a few others. Never once have I thought it shifted poorly. It’s MD transmission so it won’t shift like a LD trans. It certainly shifts very nice, IMO.

John -- It's just my feelings towards the AISIN driving one so much.

If the EcoD didn't exist, or I couldn't get one at the time, I was eyeing up the 3500 with the AISIN as I've had lots of seat time in the AISIN.

I'd rank it as this if my current truck got hit by a train and totaled: ZF 8 Speed in an 2020 or higher Gen 3 EcoD or next in line 6 Speed AISIN in a 2019 or higher Cummins 3500.

Those would be the only two trucks if I had to buy a replacement right now at this current time.

No other trucks from any other brand has my attention nor my "desire" to own.

Isn't the referenced 8 spd ZF transmission a double overdrive transmission like the Aisin? If so, there would TWO extra gears between 1st and direct compared to the Aisin, which would a real plus in my opinion.

- John

Depends on how you look at it. I look at 1st as one extra gear (since it’s much lower than the current 1st), so the other one is between the current 1st and direct.

That's a logical way to look at it.

I've always been on the podium that throwing more gears at it doesn't necessarily solve the problem. It's more on how the spacing of the ratios are and the inherent shift timing and patterns.

I'm really against anything higher than 8 speeds especially behind a Cummins. 6 to 8 gears is sufficient.

Couldn't say it any better... A new trans certainly wont be a positive driver in a purchase decision here, they have to do some more work on a full model change to entice me.

In my opinion the AISIN shifts more like a "BUILT" transmission. Only thing i would change is being able to lock out 1st running BobTail. I tow heavier than most at 35k combined and I have never said gee I wish I had a lower starting gear. Taking off on grade is seamless.

When I pulled a dirt dump trailer up the mountain side several times I would say pretty seamless as well . When I’m hauling 3000 lbs camper first gear gets it going nicely then when you hit second it’s a beast. Merging in traffic and hills it’s pretty amazing. I’m very happy with mine also

There have been plenty of times that I would take a lower 1st gear, but that when towing on steep dirt roads. Paved roads aren't an issue.

The real advantage to a lower 1st gear is that 2nd can be gotten into easier and lock the torque converter at speeds we can't now, which really reduces heat on long slow pulls.

I can see 2nd gear starts with 4.10's, but I wouldn't want them with my 3.73's or the 3.42's I had in the 2018.
