Mojave Desert, Calif. June, 2009. -- This is the crash site of X-15 #3 which ended the X-15 project. It resulted in the loss of the first true manned spaceflight (Astronaut, Major Adams - October, 1967). The plane dropped from 266,000 ft altitude with the pilot almost recovering control, but crashed between Randsburg and Trona, Calif. Only the mangled fuselage was left in the wreckage.
