Wait to start light slow to come on

I ended up sending my ECM to Auto Computer Specialists to be rebuilt. Cost $250, about 12 days to get it back. It seems to be working okay now.

Wait to start light slow to come on

Joe Mc, thanks. I did look at the Geno's replacement battery cable kit, and it looked like a good way to go, however I decided to make my own. I had the proper cable crimp tool and some cable ends already. While I was at it, I replaced the smaller ground wires too. I used military style battery...

Wait to start light slow to come on

Yesterday I plugged in my scan tool and got a P0122 code (APPS/TPS low voltage). Is that caused by a bad ECM? The WTS light delay problem has returned too. I looks like I will be installing a new ECM.

Wait to start light slow to come on

Thanks to all for your comments and suggestions. I got this truck in 2011 with about 107K miles on it. It now has 218K miles. It has been well cared for and has had a relatively easy life. The motor has always run well and still does run well. This WTS light/fuel pump delay problem started this...

Wait to start light slow to come on

Does anyone know which computer controls the WTS light and fuel pump bump?

Wait to start light slow to come on

For the past couple months the wait to start light is slow to come on for the 1998.5 truck my signature. The lift pump is also slow to cycle on and off at the same time. I wait about 5 to 10 seconds and light comes on and the pump cycles and the motor starts and runs fine. Sometimes the light...

    Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) 1999 Auto Transmission Hunting/Shifting

tgrost, I had the same, very annoying, issue with my 98.5. I did all the fixes listed above, cleaned the grounds, added two noise filters, re-routed the ground wire over the alternator, etc. but the unlocking/locking issue always returned after a short while. Then I replaced the alternator...

    2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Sport Light Conversion Questions/Alternatives

SDalgleish, Yes,I did. I took these pics before I de-burred the rough edges and painted the bare metal. I didn't want any cut knuckles at some future date. As a side note, it looks like you sure have done a lot to your truck. I'm basically stock...yet. Buzz

    2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Sport Light Conversion Questions/Alternatives

I converted my 98.5 Sport in May 2011 using the Headlight Depot lights and the suvlights.com harness. This has been one of the best upgrades I have done to my truck! The lights from Headlight Depot cost less than the harness. Total cost for harness and lights was about $325. The new head lights...

    Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) 1998 or 1999 or 98.5

Another problem related to the mid-year engine changes I recently found out was with the factory service manual I ordered for the 1998 trucks. I have a 98. 5 24v. In the diesel fuel system section it says: FUEL DELIVERY SYSTEM—DIESEL POWERED ENGINE Two different fuel systems are used for the...

2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Borgeson steering box swap

John, you are absolutely correct. I have done that now. It was a little difficult to get at the steering wheel shaft, but I found a 12" long, 5/16" drill bit that worked and I used the mark made by the set screw on the shaft to locate the correct place to drill. The other set screw fit in the...

2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Borgeson steering box swap

Gary, that must have been really scary! Good info and a caution for everyone. I noticed when I installed the new shaft that there was already one hole for a set screw on the steering wheel end of the shaft. I used that hole for one of the set screws, but I did not drill a hole for the second...

2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Borgeson steering box swap

I'm glad to be able to share some information. This forum has been very, very helpful to me with various upgrades and repairs for my truck. I may have traded my truck off by now if it wasn't for the information I got from you all on this forum. As it is now, this truck will last me many more...

2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Borgeson steering box swap

Ol'TrailDog, So far, what impresses me most about this Borgeson box is that the truck goes where it's pointed. No wandering. There is an over all better feel to the steering, probably due to a combination of the 3. 5 vs 4. 5 turns lock to lock and the variable assist feature. It's not "sports...

2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Borgeson steering box swap

The stock steering box on my '98. 5 2wd truck, with about 149K miles on it, had been getting really sloppy over the last couple years. In fact my dear GF refused to drive it when we went on long trips with the truck camper. So a couple weeks ago I crawled under the truck to look at the linkage...
