    Water pump

lost my 2003 oem pump at 51K miles. renewed it with an oem pump for a 6.7. runs cooler on the tow and does not leak. a bit of product improvement there. the original pump spewed coolant everywhere when the shaft seal failed, eh, it was time to renew the hoat coolant anyway.

    Help with fuel system diagnostics

been having good results with a cat filter ~3 micron filtration. makes the cp3 a happy puppy.

    Help with fuel system diagnostics

first thing always is renew fuel filter. feed pump pressure and timed flow check. sock in fuel tank. wif valve is before filter media in the housing. cp3 feed is inside filter on a standpipe that prevents picking up strange stuff that make it thru the filter. feed pumps have a finite life time...

2006 six speed transmission bearing failing

a cooler can't hurt. many a year of industrial maintenance on gearboxes proved to me that it depends on the kind of gears in the box. straight cut gears are the strongest, noisiest, vibrate like hell, and seemed to last longest. Hypoid gears are the smothest, quietest but weakest and shear the...

    Possible manual transmission alternative

got to wonder about the transmission gear face toughness as the diesel application have a very different vibration characteristic then the gas engines. might pay dividends to put that into the considerations for a alternate trans.

    Radio Upgrade ideas?

This was my experience with the audio systems on dodge trucks. I have been feeding an '03 SLT since new. instead of changing the electronics-which still works great-I replaced all the speakers and assured the wiring was ok. I used Kenwood triplex speakers. sounds great again. Environmental...

    grease bearing

NLGI No. 2, Lithium base grease is what Dexter specs. brand names don't mean much as long as it meets NLGI specs. lots of folks are just putting in whats handy. there is sodium based greases used in electric motor bearings which looks the same but mixing sodium and lithium based greases would...

Tuner vs gear vendors for mpg

I have an 03 250Hp five spd man SRW with 3.73 axles. the idea of slowing down is not a bad idea. speed costs fuel hauling a load. reducing revs per mile with gears does works but not as well as slowing down 10mph, I tow a 11K lb. fifth wheel and get 14mpg at 60~62mph on the flats at 5000 feet...

    Water Pump Question

Put the 6.7 cummins pump on the 5.9 in my 03 last year. haul a 11k lb fifth wheel up the rockies a bunch and find the extra coolant flow a good thing. the late 6.7 pump has more and larger vanes on the rotor. be working well so far.

Unitized Hub Bearing Assembly Removal - Lessons Learned

if you have long intervals between servicing the hub knuckles whatever you do never use antiseize on splined areas. use synthetic spline grease. the nickel/copper content in the antiseize will lock the splines up when the lube oils work their way out over time leaving the metallic content...

steering wobble after front diff change?

I inspected my 03 ram front steering u-joints after hearing some clicking. found rust puking out the seals on both. rot. also used amsoil on the diffs. not the issue. I used greasable u-joints for the repairs. the stock u-joints are not greasable. also added lube into the unit bearings thru the...

Dash "Lamp Out" warning, but all lamps work? What's up, doc?

on my '03, I found the tail lamp bulbs contacts complete their circuit by contacting wires imbedded in the plastic base plate. truly a cheap design probably done by the people who design the "prizes" in a cracker jack box. the brake bulb-double filament-causes the base of the bulb to heat up...
