Newest clue is that with the crank sensor unplugged, it will not get into the misfire condition. Sometimes it will start with the crank sensor unplugged and throttle wide open, sometimes I need to lightly plug in the crank sensor...
Positive, the SnapOn scanner specifically said "injector 2, cylinder 5".
I'm going to swap injectors in cylinder #1 and #5 tomorrow, as well as do a compression test on those two cylinders during the swap.
I don't expect the injector swap to reveal anything, as the P0305 code existed before and...
Reman, but P0305 existed before injector replacement and the probability of getting a bad injector again in that cylinder with all replaced injectors is slim to none.
Symptoms:
Intermittent misfire with white smoke out of exhaust (more smoke when accelerating during misfire condition)
Intermittent hard to start
Occasional P0305 (cylinder 5 misfire), but not immediately/always when misfiring
Begins when engine returns to idle; will not begin misfiring once...
