After driving a few blocks today the "GEN" light came back on and stays till I turn the key off, turn the key to on again - a time delay - and the light comes back on. Started out this morning with battery voltage at 12. 22 volts, shut it off this evening and still has 12. 22 volts in battery...
Your right about the volts meter "I knew that" It was volts I ment, at my age it's hard to change!! I didn't check the Amps just looking at the volts gage and noteing that it wasn't getting up to 13+ volts like it did before everything went gunny bag. Didn't get a chance to even look at it...
PS:
Old alternator failed all three tests @ Schucks and they had one in stock, It tested OK and they talked me into a belt too. $209. 78 total
Thanks for all the help.
Installed new alternater, "GEN" light is off but only charging 12. 04 amps into batteries with high beam lights on. With lights off 12. 22 amps. The dash gage has always been near 14 amps before, now shows just above the middle mark between 8 and 14. I'll find out tomorrow and I'll still take...

Got it on the bench and took the back side off and the burshes out, and the shaft has alot of wear where the brushes ride. The rear one is quite deep. Better replace it huh?
The generator light came on, started checking all the the things I thought might cause a problem. I found that the posts on the battery on the right were just black & hard on the post and in the cable. Hard to get off, But cleaned all posts the cables. As I look back I think I have been using...
Temperature gage has been on 0 all fall, didn't know weather it was the sending unit or the thermostat, Turned up the heat and turned on the heater and no heat, so knew right away it must be the thermostat. Got a new one at NAPA, took the old one out and it was stuck open with a rubber band that...
She has had a lot of trouble with transfer pump, lost 5th gear 2 times, Starter contacts, this time she was leaking diesel real bad and I just talked to her and she said it was a loose fuel filter. It seems to take 2 or 3 trips to the shop to get it right. I know she needs the KDP done. Her...
My daughter lives in Freeman, MO and has a hard time finding someone to work on her 96. Any one know of a good diesel man in that area? It's just south of KC.
Thanks for any info
 The temp rises to 190º then drops immediately to 140º, and jumps quickly back and forth, much faster than the engine would cool down, I put in a new OEM and it didn't change a thing it still does it. Is there anything in between that may have something to do with the quick change in temp?
You don't have to go that far south for warm weather around here this year, I was headed up to Cloverland from Asotin, when I said down hill I ment it - 3200' down to 750' in about 8 miles, I was in 5th with the brakes on most of the way, well, I used 4 th a bit too on some of the corners. It...
Good greif! It's 105 º, I'm motoring along at about 55 and I all of a sudden have no Throttle, engine drops to an idle and I coast to a stop. Pop the hood and see two rods hanging down one at the back side straight down and the front one looks like it broke at some threads. Too hot to do any...
What is a 4 GSK? Do I need to install it also when I up to the heaver springs? Can I do it myself? I have worked all around the motor and did in the KDP on 5 rigs but have left the motor guts alone. Been thinking about moving my stock plate forward or changing it to #11, but it is running ssoo...
