ok so since my truck blew up a couple of months ago i'm looking to get my hands a new motor. I have found a couple 01 cummins to put in it. Now for this swap i should just need to get the ecu reflshed for the Cam postiton sensor. is there anything else i should really know before doing this swap?
No i haven't, the depper i dug the more stuff i found messed up. The motor was a total loss. So i'm looking around finding one. This guy i met has a longblock with everything except turbo, and i have seen the motor and it is very clean and he want like $1,500 for it so we will see.
Yea in de as far as i know they dont do a smoke output test, atleast i haven't had one done, its just safety when it come time to renew my registration.
jeez over in the west coast they give you guys emissions tests on a diesel truck? I know they started over here with the i think 07 and up model years, but when i go through with my truck they just check safety stuff and thats it. hmmm werid
well if you have anything later then a 99 your safe, mid year they swapped the case's on the cummins without the dowel pin, pretty much any 24 valve till mid 99 still carries the KDP issue, and you can find stuff all over online for fixes!
I will try to snag pictures too along the way if time...
as far as i know, the push rods are bent, haven't pulled the rest apart yet, but i am suspecting all new valve train, possible timing gears. And i've heard some people have it happen and they luck out looks like i got the I TRIED TO BY-PASS THE CUSSING FILTER end of the stick on this one.
I took it to the local diesel shop right down the street from me, since i dont really trust the stealerships and stay away from them like the plague, but i will go if it is only something they can fix. Are you thinking it might be with the Pcm not keeping the correct timing?
Thanks man, idk i got so fed up with it looking at the same stuff over and over again that i took it to the shop. Maybe a new fresh head will boast some answers. I'll report back with findings guys.
you could also install a tc lockup switch, it's cheap effective and it works, Just make sure you use it at speeds 50 and above and don't have it engaged when upshifting or it could end badly for your input shaft. I had the same issues a couple months back and did the lockup switch and haven't...
i have checked those as well, they are all good! would cracking the outflow valve banjo bolt help at all? i know it already bleeds air out and how should the fuel look coming out of the cracked injectors? like a nice squirt right?
