The “jumper” refers to Aux switch programming. Have not done this myself, just using term from upfitter info sheet. I’m assuming someone did it for switches 1 & 2 because I don’t know another way they could have become B+.
If I need one of them in future will have to follow directions to make...
Thanks for the responses. After systematically excluding other drains at TIPM with a sensitive DC ammeter, we noticed that two of the five “upfitter” switch circuits had somehow been jumpered so they were “B+”, on with key off. Don’t ask me how I hadn’t noticed this before, just wasn’t informed...
At first this seemed to be a bed light that would turn on spontaneously, and we disconnected the LED circuit connections at the light curing that part. But the dying battery problem either continued or resumed (thought cured for a few weeks but don’t know if “tested” so am unsure of that)...
Our dealer kept truck two weeks, driving it, and problem did not occur. They asked me to leave the Edge Insight disconnected from the diagnostic port, saying sometimes having anything connected there interfered with communication among components (on the CAN bus, or ???). I drove an hour home...
A. We still have 2 years on the premium factory warranty, so it's a $200 deductible to us for now.
B. All the key HVAC, seat heat, etc etc controls are on the "radio" screen, so it's hard to get a divorce !!
C. The continuous tire pressure display I especially wanted is in that EVIC display...
The current status of my issues with electronic displays is different than when I initiated this thread. Now it is intermittent, simultaneous failure of both the radio screen and the central digital EVIC screen between speedo and tach. The analog-looking gauges like those, temp, oil pressure...
The diagnosis turned out to be one loose pin in that same connector behind the driver's front wheelwell liner, the connector that the dealership mechanic and my own mechanic friend had carefully checked and found no loose or displaced pins, previously. Do not know pin number. Repairing that...
Update: Very positive conversation with service manager at Dick’s Wilsonville CDJR. Scheduled with his transmission specialist in 2 weeks. Understood that consultation with Ram or Aisin specialists may be needed, after we get the basic thorough diagnostic tree done. Cautiously optimistic...
Agree with the argument for simplicity, and caution about harness replacement unintended side effects. I hope to learn about the sources of advice from Aisin and FCA in the case of the Texas owner, so as to understand the situation and resources the best I can before we launch the next try. If...
I found Dave Smith, Austin TX area, who posted the above about his wiring harness replacement, on LinkedIn and messaged him asking name of dealer and any details he can provide that would help them resurrect information that might help get the same attention and FCA/Aisin consulting advice for...
And another forum and thread even more on-target. Given the attention we have already given to connector I 255, this man’s experience sounds much more likely to match mine. I will try to communicate with him on the Cummins forum and find out where/what dealer was involved.
Here is the key...
Finally stumbled on someone with probably same issue on another forum:
