Not necessarily, mine would make the noise very intermittently at first. Like only when in reverse. Later, the noise was more consistent until it make it on every shift. My pilot bushing was totally shot which allowed the input shaft to flop around when the clutch was not engaged. A new 13"...
I had a similar noise last summer. it turned out to be the pilot bearing in the flywheel. Another weak component which can be upgraded with a sealed roller bearing from Quad 4x4
My u-bolts holding the spring and rear axle assembly on my 96 dually were loose and I tightened them to 260 foot pounds less than 500 miles ago. They are loose again! Has anyone ever experienced this? I don't see any evidence of bolt stretching and I can't see where the nuts have backed off...
Has anyone found an aftermarket source for front wheel bearing packs? This is my second one and I hate to pay the dealer price! I didn't find any cheaper sources in my forum search today.
Easy enough job with a transmission jack and some patience. On a 96 you will most likely have to change the crossmember. Other than that, you are probably upgrading the clutch anyway and you will have to change the driveline lengths by 51/2 inches and lengthen the transfer case shift rod. Six states...
My dash "brake" light and "ABS" light are on all the time and ny trailer brakes are not working.
My dealer said it was probably the speed sensor in the rear differential. $75. later it did not correct. Anyone had a similar problem?
