“New” 2018 2500 Ram. No way to monitor EGT & Regen

That's exactly how it works. Newer vehicles have more and more sensing built-in to meet emission and expected power levels. It's all there, being monitored by the factory computer, and an OBD2 adapter can read them. It's not always that simple, like the DPF status, but generally, you can find a...

Rear tires wearing more than front?

I agree with this. The engine doesn't just 'make more torque because it can' or every newer truck would just rocket down the road empty. My take is that the EB adds rear tire wear by moving braking power 100% to rear while a non-EB truck uses the fronts for braking, mostly. When empty, I think...

“New” 2018 2500 Ram. No way to monitor EGT & Regen

I got a Kiwi3 bluetooth OBD2 adapter and watch EGT and DPF status with the Torque App on my Android phone. I like it, it's cheap, and I'm getting over 800 miles between regens. I've pretty much quit watching it. You could go cheaper with a Chinese OBD2 adapter but I've been happy with the PLX...

    Surprised by Great MPG

My best tank since new: 17.6mpg. Got almost 13,000 miles now, and averaging 13.8mpg in my 2018 2500. If I set the cruise at 55 or 60 I can't make 18mpg on the hwy. You guys must all drive downhill both ways or with a tailwind.

    2018 2500 - My first diesel

I need a middle set! The mud makes it into my front camper tie downs right at the back of the back doors. The back tie downs are clean, it's great. The pic is my road home. About a mile of that each way, every day in spring break up (a month) and wet fall (another month plus)

Thoughts on purchasing a new Ram 2500 CTD

I bought a 2018 2500 ctd this January. I am still thrilled with it after nearly 12,000 miles, lots of that towing or hauling. I've had over 16,000 lbs behind it, but my typical trailer weight is 4500 (enclosed trailer with a side by side) or gravel in the dump trailer, around 12-14k. My empty...

    2018 2500 - My first diesel

Haven't posted in a long time. I am really enjoying the truck, and no problems so far beyond some bodywork. I'm up to almost 12,000 miles now. Got a 14'x7' dump trailer to go behind it. I've used it more than I expected. Took the Can-Am side by side out for a long weekend behind the camper...

    2018 2500 - My first diesel

Just made about a 400 mile trip with a Skamper popup camper in the truck bed, into sustained headwinds of 38, gusting to 58 mph for the middle of it, and averaged a whopping 11.9 mpg. Truck performed great and I was monitoring EGTs and DPF status, and it started performing a regen about 15 miles...

    2018 2500 - My first diesel

I've observed two regens since my last post, and there was 784 miles between them. They each lasted about 15-17 miles, and EGR 2 and 3 went up around 1000 deg. F. instead of the normal 400-700. EGR 1 had no noticeable change, #2 varied quickly, and #3 lagged. #4 increased a bit but clearly the...

    2018 2500 - My first diesel

Here is my screenshot of the custom display in "Torque Pro" the Android app. The DPF Status is a custom pid I found on one of the Cummins forums, and I need to adjust the range of the first EGT sensor. I'm using a PLX Kiwi3 OBD II bluetooth adapter.

    2018 2500 - My first diesel

I'll get a screenshot of it running tomorrow- its not very interesting with just gauges but no values. Essentially I have 4 small EGT gauges plus a large DPF status dial gauge that reads 0-100%. It was at about 30% when I set it up and has been climbing to I think around 50% over a couple...

    2018 2500 - My first diesel

A quick update: Temperatures have warmed up (highs in the +30F range) and the miles per gallon have increased which makes me happy. I also bought a Kiwi3 OBD2 adapter and with the Torque app on my phone I can now see DPF Status. I haven't observed a regen yet, it's only been on there a day. My...

    2018 2500 - My first diesel

I ferried from Tacoma to Anchorage for three reasons. First, I had a reckless driving conviction 20 years ago and my entry to Canada is, at this point, up to the border guard I meet unless I apply for rehabilitation with the Canadian Gov't. I haven't gone through that process. Second, an...

    2018 2500 - My first diesel

I have over 2200 miles on it now, and I've been tracking with Fuelly.com. The EVIC said 16 mpg on the last tank, but fuelly.com shows actual of only 13.5. I'd been making a point to drive it very conservatively, so I'm a bit disappointed. I knew I had idled a fair amount one day (new puppy in...

    New Propane Tank Regulations

I've been using the same propane guy at a bulk facility for about 10 years now. The poster above is right, the exchange (blue rhino, actually filled at the place I go to) shorts you 20%, and the bulk price has gone down. The guy I like who normally fills my 5, 20, and 120 gal tanks likes to...
