Shop wants to do an alignment after install of new shocks. With the solid front axle on the 2006 3500 4x4 I thought that this was not necessary unless tires were wearing funny and they are not! What is your experience TDR members??

I'd suggest buying the fog lights and installing them and then try your headlight switch to see if it will push in and out when your low beams are on. If it doesn't work then buy a new switch for a truck with fog light as the wiring is probably right there.
