Grinding Gears
Wow, I had no clue there was so much grinding going on out there. We are taking the transmission apart tomorrow and will report back with a pathological diagnosis. This is nothing more than exploratory sugery. All comments are well received and I can appreciate the need for...
Noisy switch
I've got a J brake and the switch is quiet. What is annoying is that the gear numbers plates keeps spinning around.

Need help from someone who understands the manual transmission NV5600
(ETH): we have a 2001 2500 Sport with the 6 speed manual shift (it's the wife's truck). It has about 68 K miles and  started to grind the gears when going from 3rd to 4th or when downshifting from 4th to 3rd -...
I heard last Friday that the President was suspending the penalties for using red diesel on road? Did anyone else hear this?

Thanks, TSpecht!
Your explanation makes sense. The topper creates a suction effect in drag (that is why aircrafts end tapered with a tail). Imagine the drag on the tractor trailers!
Mileage with or without a topper.
Thanks for the replies. It makes little sense to think that an open bed would be more fuel efficient. One would guess that the shell would provide more air dynamics for decreasing wind resistnace. The usual topper probably weighs around 200 lbs and for these...
I know this has been investigated before, but I can't find it again. Do pickup trucks get better mileage with a topper or with the bed open? Or does it make any difference at all?
Thanks,

If the tallest gear in the 5 speed automatic transmission is lower (Taller) than the ratio in a 6th speed manual: does that mean that the RPM's will be lower when cruising at 60 mph in the automatic trans and therefore the mileage will be better, all other things being equal (empty truck, stock...
Thanks for the reply. Kellogg is a little of a hike from here, although it would sure be an interesting trip for the family.

I get around 13 mpg dragging a flatbed with a 1949 PW doing 70-75. We have a 200. 5
(April) 3500 Lariat, stock tires/wheels, 4. 01 gears, 6 speed manual.
2006 Pw
We own a 1949 green/black fenders PW and it did not come with an auto
transmission. That is why we are puzzled that all the PW's for sale around this area are ADA models. We'd rather stroke the gears. What's wrong with the DC people?
