Hey, fellas. I notice my 04 takes about 8 to 10 miles of driving to get up to operating temperature. Is this normal? My lil Honda wagon heats up in about a mile and a half but I know it doesn't have the cast iron this Cummins does. Thanks for any insight. Also, do I have the fast idle warm up...
Thrust washers
FWIW, Dave Goerend sent me new washers when I had a local trans shop install his vb and 3 disc converter. My truck is an 04 with 30k miles. The tech at the shop said there was virtually no wear on the original washers, but I had them replace them with the supposedly upgraded...
I think I have a bad connection or brake switch. It has hung up in park. Once I got it out and did not have the brake on so I figure it is the brake switch. Any advice on how I can get it on the road and to the dealer for warranty repair? Thanks
I have an 04 2500 stock except for duals and a Goerend TC/VB upgrade package. Only 30k miles. Love it! My neighbor has a Duramax that he chipped with no other mods and the mpg went way up! I am looking for a recommendation for a chip that is designed for efficiency and possibly slight power...
What if?
What if I add a couple gallons of B100 to my tank at every fillup with petrodiesel? Will they mix together in solution giving me an effective B10 mix?
Good summary
You will likely not enjoy the way the stock transmission performs, although it may last a good long while. I get tired of shifting gears and wanted an auto for the wife as well. Hated the stock transmission mushiness, and $2500 later it is a dream to drive. Good luck with your choice.
Improved 48re?
To my knowledge, there has been little change with the exception of the exhaust brake enabling. Sure, the marketing folks at DC would love to spread the belief that this or that is new or improved. Not likely. I had some question about going with a valve body and was just going...
No tow box for me.
Nah, it feels like a different truck with the TC and VB. Dave said I did not have to do the vb but I went ahead and did it. The TC makes the much bigger difference, here.
Just TC and VB?
Oh, man, heck yes it is worth it. I have had my Goerend TC and VB installed for about two weeks now. My truck (have not added to sig yet) is a 2004 4x4 quad cab with 30k miles, totally stock with just a MBRP exhaust. I started reading here and elsewhere about how mushy the stock...
I would not be too optimistic about firm shifts with the stock tc as loose as it is, if by firm you mean the engine rpms actually drop significantly at upshift. Valve body alone is not going to do that for you.
Cost
Well, the 3d tc with unlimited mileage/unlimited horsepower warranty from Dave is $1295. The valve body, apply lever, servo spring, thrust washers, seals, etc. came to a total of just under $1900 with shipping to NC. Labor for install was about $600. Dave said if I need a new transmission one...
Can this unit be programmed to change the ECM commanded tcc lock up? In other words, can I input the mph at which I want the tcc to lock up in overdrive and also unlock? Is it independent of throttle? How do you like yours if you have one? Easy install? Thanks
Yeah, right! Not from me! I just wanted to let you all know that my 04 2500 4x4 qc (all stock but for MBRP Cool Duals) is now a dream come true to drive. Got the 3d tc and vb, apply lever, servo spring, etc. from Dave last week. Local transmission shop in Raleigh NC (Supreme Auto Service) did the...
Needs mods
Best thing you can do to the 48re is install a good tc and vb and associated complimentary components. I just got my Goerend stuff installed and I can't believe how much better the truck shifts and gets power to the ground. I grinned all the way home from the transmission installer. The...
