Question on taking rig to Alaska

As long as your truck is solid I would grab extra spares for the trailer and hit the road. I live in Tok, Ak and I have driven every road in the state. There is decent availability of parts in both Anchorage and Fairbanks. Also Whitehorse in the Yukon has a good dealer. I have to confess though...

    Dual Mass Separating?

My flywheel separated at 160k with the original clutch. The only notice it gave was a vibration at idle. The last straw was putting my edge module on 5. I still limped two miles home.

    Exhaust Manifold...do they crack?

Mine didn't crack, but after 125k miles towing in Alaska summer and winter the manifold pushed the #6 gasket out the rear. It really whistled when I put the jake on. what a pain. 05 won't start in cold weather w/o block heater

Jrutledge I live in Tok, Alaska where the winter temps are truely severe. You don't really flinch until -65*F outside. I don't even plug my '05 in until 0*. I have even got it to fire at -40*F without plugging in. I usually cycle the preheat twice before attempting to start it. Good batteries...
