The silencer was developed and put in the turbo at Chrysler's request to calm down turbo noise. They said customer's had complained about the turbo whistle when comparing it to gas engines. Take 'em out and let em whistle or not----makes no difference in performance or air quality.

The 3LM is very, very old technology. I would not suggest that for your twin set. I have been hearing great results from a 4027888 HX40 and 3804502 HT60 setup.

Holset Turbochargers
The Super40 has the same size shaft as a regular HX40. Shaft size WAS not the problem you guys WERE having. You overspeed ANY turbo and it will go "poof" especially if you don't have a good hi-speed balance on it. The Super40 was developed so you guys in the field would not have to mess with it...
The 4038822 Pro52 adapter is angled to keep the turbo tucked in the engine bay. It also has a boss cast on both sides so you can drill and tap them for wastegates, gauges etc. This adapter also has excellent transitional flow from flange to flange.

Forrest you need to contact a Holset Aftermarket Distiributor, not Cummins. Go to www.holset.com and there is a search engine to find the one closet to you.
4wheels smoking, yes you will need a 90 degree adapter to go from the comp outlet. Oil fittings are the same.

These turbos are available from your Holset Distributors. They are in limited supply as the entire diesel industry is struggling to demand for product. I suggest get your orders in because it will be first come, first served.
