I had the same sort of situation for the past year. So much so that went in for a lp at 77000mi and then eventually(after symtoms returned) a VP at 102K. These changes seemed to fix the problem for a couple of months then would show up again, which would send me back to the VP shop...
I installed the Autometer 0-60psi and will push 30psi with a boost elbow installed with my setup. Installed EGT pre turbo as well, for the same reason as CP. The LP fuel pressure gauge is a helpful indication of the health of the lP pump.
Thanks for the information. I copied (actually used a digital camera) down the numbers (several different sets, one from the bar code sticker another that was stamped on the casing of the pump, turns out the stamped number is the Cummings #) and called another local injection pump service shop...
Diesel, my fuel pressure is 15. 5 at idle and 12-14 wot and has been in that range for the life of the previous VP. Rusty, I assume that there will be different model numbers for the pumps so looks like I need to look up and compare them.
Is there a difference between the VP44 on the 2001 HO motor and the 235 hp motor? I just had my 3rd VP44 (covered under shop warranty) and it seems like the truck is not making as much hp as on the previous pumps? :{
Don't forget about the wiring harness extension and loom to new location. I haven't bought this kit yet, but I think it is time, psi is 15 at idle but under wot drops to 5-6. Replaced the LP once and vp44 twice (second one was under warranty, faulty pump).
I found the same oil residue on the inlet, I have 107K miles on the truck. I just figured it is caused by minor blow by at the turbine shaft seal. No oil in the hose from my AFE filter. Our 1998 S70 T-5 (turbocharged/intercooled) Volvo (137K miles) also showed signs of blow-by.
I am planning on installing a set of Autometer gauges: boost, egt, fuel psi. I have combed through numorous theads regarding the install of the fp gauge looking for options. In the fuel line between the filter and the VP, there is a section of 5/16" rubber hose( I assume this is stock, can't...
I am getting a squeaking sound from the rear axle on my '01 2500 6sp, 2wd 3. 54g(105Kmi) from 0 to 15mph. Sounds like a mouse wheel that needs lube. Disconnected the U-joint from the yoke on the rearend thinking it might be the U-joint, it wasn't. Gear lube level also ok. No leaks. Squeak...
