I put a clutch in a guys 1997 dodge 3500 4x4 about 6 years ago. He also had no 5th gear caused by the nut backing off. I locktited the nut back in place and it has been fine since. At the time I didn't know about the splined shaft fix, but it's been working good since.
well the old filter fell out when I removed the bolt and the new one fit tight as a drum on the old filter seal that fits in the pump cavity. Maybe it didnt fix anything but the truck was towed here and now he is on his way pulling campers for a livin again.

yeah, i believe its the red line(closest to pass side tire) when in 2wd. switch it to
4wd and other line should have vacuum to it. that would verify that vacuum to
t-case switch is there and switch is working. if that all checks out ok then more than likely actuator is bad. i bought one from...
just worked on one of these. verified vacuum to front diff actuator was switching by unpugging it and running engine. ended up being bad vacuum actuator.
