Attention: TDR Forum Junkies To the point: Click this link and check out the Front Page News story(ies) where we are tracking the introduction of the 2025 Ram HD trucks.
The AAM website does show a TracRite GT that says it uses brake shoes. It also says they have a 1150 TracRite GTL that is either a computer or driver selectable locker.
Up to this point I heard there were no lockers available for AAM axles. So does the GTL work in our trucks?
I mounted mine on the drivers side next to the 4X4 shifter. I removed the boot for the shifter and drilled two holes in the plastic. Used the factory mount with the radio. No special fabrication.
I have seen a split shelf that Cabela's (and probably others) sell that works with the overhead...
cerberusiam is correct, we don't have clutches. They are gears. That's why we don't need friction modifiers in our gear oil.
Here is a link that describes how the Torsen LSD works. It is at least similar if not the same that the AAM LSD has...
I don't think you will gain anything by letting it idle. The better combustion efficiency from a warmer engine won't gain you enough on that length of drive to make up for the fuel you are burning in the driveway. You can do a test to see how your overhead mileage drops on a warm-up.
My...
Here is the thread that Vaughn MacKenzie was referring to. Thanks for the direction. Now I can't remember if I dumped my differential oil in my waste oil tank. Not supposed to burn that.

I posted this on another thread. The last two columns are of interest here. I reset my overhead at each fill-up. I can't tell when the overhead is high or when it will read low, but it is accurate enough to look for trends as was mentioned in another post. The first two tanks the mpg numbers...
Ask and ye shall receive.
This is the column in my spreadsheet for running average fuel mileage. It is calculated off odometer reading with total gallons purchased to date. As you can see I'm stable the last two tanks at 18. 06 mpg.

I agree with the egg under the throttle idea. Even letting off the accelerator quickly can send you into a slide or spin. It is a good idea to practice. Out here people will pull up to a stop sign at an intersection, make eye contact with you, and STILL pull out in front of you.
When...
Here is my history from my logbook. I have this on an XCEL spreadsheet with comments about what I was doing that would effect mileage like pulling my travel trailer, 4X4 low range operating, cold weather, etc. I don't know how to attach a file though. As you can see, there are several 20 plus...
"And you can find out how much comes "off" your front axels"
This is correct, since you are overhanging the rear axle the weight acts to unload the front axle, but you already have more than enough up front with the Cummins.
For maximum weight transfer to the axle, you want the weight as close to your tailgate as possible. It has to do with Moment and lever-arms.
You multiply the weight at the tailgate by the distance from the front axle, and divide by the wheelbase to find out how much effective weight you add...
If you are running 150 degrees or so, you might want to check out your thermostat to make sure it is operationg correctly. I know that in cold weather my truck takes forever to get to full operating temp. My mileage drops 1 to 2 mpg when that is happening.
My normal mileage without trying is...
The diesel will dissolve the oil. The manual says you can burn small quantities of motoroil to help lubricity of the fuel. I don't remember it specifying new or used. Probably new. I have burned my used oil at about a quart per tank of fuel. Not every tank, but now and then I've poured some in...
