From what I've learned is that some of the 14's had engines that were built with an improper torque spec, and over time that allowed the bearings to walk and eventually spin and boom. Keeping my fingers crossed that my 15 doesn't go through that.
I have a 2015 and with just under 88k on the clock it gets used a lot. I had a CC switch go out, but other than that it's been flawless. Just oil changes and fuel filter changes so far.
A co-worker had a 2014 that grenaded, and they gave him great trade in on a 2016 and it's been fine. These...
I'm hearing 3000+ failures, but no actual numbers or actual sales numbers. An engine failure is a big thing, especially these days when it could cost you $10k or more to replace it. Hope mine hangs in there.
It seems all the new diesel engines are having teething problems. EGR, DEF, higher temps have all contributed to these problems. Car and Driver had a boatload of problems with their Nissan with the Cummins v8, and only got 15mpg in actual testing...when it ran. No thanks.
Roger that.
I have never done Blackstone, but I may start. I put 250k on my 7.3 PSD with only a waterpump and fan clutch, as far as engine repairs. Did 10k changes with either Delo or Rotella dino oil. I use my truck to travel every city in Arizona plus Southern Nevada to the tune of 900 miles...
I'm almost to 55k with no problems. Oil changes at the dealership every 10k and one fuel filter at 30k. There is a TSB involving an oil spec change, to Rotella T6 5w-40 full synthetic.
TSB # is 18-078-16.

I would seriously doubt that there is even a 2mpg difference all else equal. At 75mph I'm at 1916, whereas a 3.55 truck will be at 1735. That 10% reduction in revs pales in comparison to the aero load which of course would be the same for both trucks.
I just put one on my short-short bed and it went in nice and easy. The only thing is the lock. It says not to key it to the key that is in the key fob. What other key is there (the spare lock doesn't work).
That's good info, and realistically about what I'd be towing. It doesn't surprise me that the towing mileage is not all that much better than a bigger truck, but for me anyway, 90% of my miles will be unloaded and there's no way a 2500 is going to get close to the Eco1500 in those conditions...
Another option is to get the Bilstein adjustable height shocks. They're basically a 5100 with an adjustable perch, and they're under $100 on Amazon. I had 5100's on my F250 and it really helped the ride quality and I put almost 200k on them with many trips to Baja.
