One of your closing statements stood out. You stated while key is on but not started you see the cluster go dark, could it possibly be a short in the ignition switch itself. Maybe jiggle the key to see if that introduces the intermittent issue? I may be totally off base but just a thought.

Curious what this is proving. I know we use to place hard drives in a freezer before boot up on voicemail systems as a last ditch effort to get a system up. Freezing would allow the platter to spin up and load. Ecm is solid state so just curious.

Sir, I actually had my factory batteries die in that manner. I had left dinner pulling out to highway and it died. Restarted and kept rpm’s up while stopped. I had new AGM diehard at home knowing mine were EOL. I figured the sudden cold and grid heater draw was the culprit. Odd but true story.
