I belong to this same club. It happened to me also I had blown the head gasket . I had just put a new turbo on and was testing performance when just like you said KNOCK KNOCK lots of smoke. I keep my #6 piston in my garage for keep sake. Had to have block bored to clean up cylinders.
Put the cylinder on top dead center that you are installing the springs on. The piston comes all the way to the top of the cylinder and will hold the power valves up. Just make SURE the cylinder you are working on is atTDC.
Just installed twins and had to remove my old turbo mount exhaust brake. Towed the 5th wheel this last weekend and WOW love the twins but really missed the Exhaust brake here in the mountains of northeastern Utah. After I dropper of into a place called Sheep Creek up at Flaming Gorge my wife...
I had a similar problem with my truck, Oil comming from between the exhaust manifold and head on #1 cylinder. I turned out to be valve stem seals took me about a hour to replace the 2 seals. The engine would smoke prety good until the oil would burn out after a short period of idleing also I...
I have purchased a Honda RV generator form a person in Sequim Washington which is 105 mile north of Olympia on the Olympic pennisula. Is there anyone in that area that will be traveling towards Utah and would be willing to pick this generator up and haul as close to Utah as possilble.
I have what appears to be an oil leak between the exhaust manifold and the head at cylinder #1. I thought maybe the injector was slobbering and it was diesel fuel, I check cylinder temps with a heat gun and this cylinder is runnig about 50 deg less than the rest. I switched the injectors between...
Does anyone happen to know what the bearing clearance is on the main shaft in the NV4500 transmission. Also those that have replaced the main shaft what did you use to seal the front bearing retainer/ throwout bearing guide.
No update at this point in time, I have not heard anything yet on the analysis on the debris. I have just been trying to get my truck put back together. I had to send the block to a machine shop to be bored . 020 over I will be picking it up tommorow. I REALLY MISS THE RAM YOU KNOW!
There is no way to back flush the nozzles, like in the previous post they are about the size of a ink pen tube and protrude through the main bearing journal pointed at the bottom of the pistons. The debris that I found in the tubes was some what difficult to push out I used an torch tip cleaner...
Yes there has been Fram filters on this engine before, I first started with Mobil One 407 filters then I could not find them any more so I started using Fram this was evidently a big mistake and exspensive mistake. So to every one out there do buy a quality oil filter!!!!!!!!!!!!!. I had thought...
I finished disassembling the engine tonght and found that the cooling nozzles on cylinders #6, #5, #4, were plugged. I had first blamed this train wreck on the propane system thinking it was out of adjustment. However I never heard any detination going on before this failure occured. If you want...
I have the engine out and most all the accessories off of it. Have not removed oil pan yet. #6 piston looks really bad, cylinder has some scaring, it appears that the piston debris has attached to the liner. I think . 020 oversize will clean up the cylinder. (I will get a picture of the piston...
Well I went down to the shop and pulled the head of tonight #6 piston is toast. I have not figured out where all the piston debris went it must of went into the crankcase because the turbo is fine. I guess there is one bright point it did not wipe out my new PDR HX35 turbo. Cylinder #5 is also...
