I can tell you I had the cat off my truck for a few months and there was no difference in boost pressure. I can also tell you there is no performance difference either. The diesel cat is very unrestricted.
I'm 99% sure it's just topped out on the govenor. My '94 used to run about 78 - 80 mph and no more. I installed a Piers 3k govenor kit and now can run past 100 mph easy. These engines are easy and cheap to hop up, have fun!
I think your going to hear that Dodge considers the temp cycling normal for the Cummins engine. There are some recommended thermostat changes and I've tryed them all, nothing helped.

My throttle rod broke this past weekend. The threaded adjustable section is what broke. I had enough adjustment on the ball socket ends to put the rod back together and make it home. Dodge tells me these rods are on national backorder! Has anyone else broken their rod?
It's a 27 foot enclosed HaulMark trailer with snowmobiles, weighs about 5000 pounds. I come up in 5th gear, not sure on the RPM's, 1200 degrees, 70 mph, boost is 30.
I guess I knew 1300 degrees was the critical temp, that's why I use 1200 in case the gauge is off a little and to keep it below melt down. Doesn't aluminum melt at 1300 degrees? I am a little worried about the "number one cylinder being hotter" Roger, do you know how much hotter it runs than the...
When I'm coming up the west side of the Eisenhower Tunnel pulling my trailer, I put the exhaust temp right at 1200 degrees and hold it right to the top of the tunnel. It takes about 5 minutes to get to the top, is this to long to run the engine at that exhaust temp?
I'm going to order some Amsoil synthetic oil for my Cummins but I'm confused about what weight to use. I'm towing about 5000 pounds up and down the Rocky Mountains every weekend.
The jig/kit was awesome! Kudos to the designer and supplier of this kit, super easy! Took 1. 5 hours and the only hang up was a bolt head that sticks out on the drivers side on the block that was keeping me from getting the belt back on. I didn't take the rad shroud off, there is plenty of...
Damn my truck runs good, but today was emission test day and it's putting out twice the black smoke they will allow. The truck has passed a couple times with the TST plate, but I had the injection pump rebuilt and the tech slid my plate full forward. I don't have a clue where the plate used to...
