2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Wanted: OEM Carter Lift Pump, Dead or Alive

When my first OEM lift pump died I replaced it with another OEM part and destructively disassembled the original piece just to see what had gone wrong. The pump motor ran as it was supposed to but the pump didn't pump. The problem was the built in relief valve; the ball had been pushed through...

    2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Can't find A/C leak, what next?

You might not find dye evidence at the evaporator drain. I would not rule out the evaporator coil until I'd had a look at it directly. The oil/dye mix is pretty sticky stuff and could be clinging to the evaporator coil fins without ever 'draining' off.

    OEM Aluminum Wheels

Yep, still have 'em. What's an email addy I can use for pics?

Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Need suggestions to trouble shoot lift pump blowing fuses. (somewhat long)

Disassemble and inspect the old pump before installing the replacement. You might learn why the first Fass failed and prevent a repeat failure of the new one.

Bump! Note the "motivated seller" in the original post :)

    2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission AC issue

There should be a high pressure limit switch in this system. If the condenser can't get rid of the heat, the system's high side pressure could go high enough to disable the compressor. Anything that interferes with the condenser's ability to shed heat will be suspect. About 3/4 of the fins on...

    2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission can't get shackle off

You got it to move 1"? If you got it to move at all then you've already won the battle. Soak it with penetrant and drive it back where it came from. Then soak it again and drive it back the other way. Back and forth till all the rust in the bushing sleeve is broken down and you can use a drift...

2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission brakes locking up and won't release, hydroboost.

Master cylinder piston must fully return to 'rest' position to uncover return port for hydraulic (brake) fluid so calipers/drums can relax. If your hydroboost is dirty or corrupted by repeated low/no hydraulic oil in ps system it may not be completely free moving and be preventing complete...

2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Small electrical problem...

Ground fault-brake light energy finding a ground path through right side marker light circuit. Rear bulb holder or lamp assembly has lost its ground path.

    Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) NV4500 questiion/s

A failing ball or roller bearing would explain both the overheat and excess ferrus material in the drain oil. Likely a countershaft bearing. Towing a load on the highway would just exacerbate the situation (5th speed drives through the countershaft). The Cummins makes so much noise you probably...

    OEM Aluminum Wheels

Replaced the OEM wheels on my '01. 5 2500. 4 original aluminum wheels available. They are straight with the rash you'd expect for 180,000 miles. With center caps. Can send pics if you're interested. Motivated seller!

2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission 2001.5 Disc Pads!!! Three half worn and one paper thin!

Are you saying that the brake fluid is  12 Years Old?!?! OMG, that stuff is half water by now. Purge, purge and purge again. There may well be enough rust in the piston bore to prevent free travel of the piston in the sticking caliper. A caliper rebuild may also be in order to...

Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Fuel PSI Gage which to buy and Permanent mechanical options?

VP pulses? Interesting..... I remote mounted the sender for my ISSPRO FP gauge with a snubber just like Geno's recommended. It made perfect sense to isolate the sender from engine vibration and pump pressure feedback. Now I'm beginning to wonder, does this 'hammer effect' have anything to do...

    2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Steering issues.

OK, so I just eyeballed the hose routing in my '01. The pump has one pressure output line and two return lines. The pressure output is routed to the brake booster and from there to the steering box. I guess it stands to reason that the brakes come first, they being, if only slightly, more...

    2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Steering issues.

Duh! Yes, I suppose it would. (laughing at myself) Well, if a new box has not changed anything maybe the pump's hydraulic pressure isn't getting to the box where it can be put to use. I don't know the hose routing or pressure schematic by heart but I'll be looking at it this evening...
