    Least detrimental gear for WOT

I hope I didn't misrepresent what I WAS doing. I was not accelerating, quickly letting off, and then quickly slamming the gas pedal for WOT. I was starting from a stop, accelerating relatively normal in first gear, transmission hits 2nd gear, I accelerate normal for a second or two in 2nd, then I...

    Least detrimental gear for WOT

Manual transmission.... if at WOT... depress pedal fully, wind out gear, simultaneously release gas pedal fully and depress clutch, relatively simultaneously release clutch while getting on gas pedal? What am I missing? Been driving mt cars, MT motorcycles, and class B trucks for over a...

    Least detrimental gear for WOT

Hey guys, just wanna say thanks. I’m following what you’re saying that letting off throttle being a no no, and obviously, I will follow your advice. When I drive a manual, I’m used to light switch dethrottling. When I drive an auto under normal conditions, I of course don’t dethrottle and I use...

    Least detrimental gear for WOT

Thanks guys, really learning a lot about today modern trannys, especially today’s electronically integrated ones such as the 68rfe. My throttle on is more of a dimmer switch, my throttle off is more of a light switch, so I will adjust my driving habits accordingly. I smelled transmission fluid the...

    Least detrimental gear for WOT

So other than revving it to Wot and dropping it into D, this transmission is abuse proof ?

    Least detrimental gear for WOT

Thank you very much for the response. You take a stance and back it up with a detailed explanation. The forum nazis must be losing their mind. Being a MT guy mostly, I didn’t know these details on the auto. What you say makes sense, I will try to do that going forward. I did feel like...

    Least detrimental gear for WOT

So two guys here staying from either experience or a gut feeling, that letting off throttle after being deep into it right when it’s about to shift isn’t the greatest for the life of the transmission. I tend to agree that the transmission spazzes out with confusion / hesitation when I do this, but I’ve been...

    Least detrimental gear for WOT

Well not immediately letting off... just letting off right before the transmission is going to shift from 2nd to 3rd. My logic is that the transmission is not making a shift under WOT load, but 0-40% throttle instead. No?

    Least detrimental gear for WOT

Just seeing if I have anyone else to bite.... aside from debating whether it’s beneficial to go WOT, as the topic headline says, what would everyone say is the least detrimental way to go WOT and have some fun with the truck when it’s empty???

    Least detrimental gear for WOT

Ok so just a recap if I can average out everyone’s responses.... Driving it hard/wot empty does not do anything beneficial to help the health of the truck in a way that towing heavy up a slight grade for a few hours would. Do we all agree? Is there a way to drive WOT/have some fun on an...

    Least detrimental gear for WOT

Thanks for the replies everyone. Maybe the way I asked the question makes it sound like my previous vehicle was a minivan, and my toolset consists of the 15 piece gift set my wife bought me at Macy’s during Christmas. Despite my wording, this is not the case. I’m an avid motocrosser or was in my...

    Least detrimental gear for WOT

Ok interesting. Seems like people on this forum are saying that a 2-3 second WOT burst in 2nd gear is really not detrimental at all in bone stock truck. One of those situations where the truck doesn’t even feel it. On another forum, I asked the same question, and the guys there leaned more...

    Least detrimental gear for WOT

Hey guys, have a 2017 with 68 transmission... it’s my baby, but not my daily driver. Has 15k miles on her. Since it sits Monday thru Friday, I typically take it out on sat night or sun morning. After engine/transmission is fully warmed up, I try to give it some exercise. Typically from a stop, I start...

Turbo Cool Down time after spirited driving??

Hmmm, well if the turbo does go on me at some point in the future, is it worth it to replace with an upgraded, performance aftermarket turbo or just keep it stock? Also, with all the soot that's deposited in the oil by the EGR emissions crap, isn't it better to have regular oil that changed...

    Synthetic or Dino oil?

Just my 2 cents, but I have been reading that synthetic is more resistant to coking, which can be an issue if the turbo is not allowed to cool down enough before shutdown and lead to premature turbo failure. Going forward, I will be using synthetic, but im OCD with my stuff.

Turbo Cool Down time after spirited driving??

Thanks for all your replies guys. I will heed your advice going forward and next oil change, I will use synthetic just to be extra cautious. I still think with all the electronics on this 70k dollar truck, you'd think they have some sort of prevention, or at least notification, that the engine...

Turbo Cool Down time after spirited driving??

So the heat in the turbo is created from the high RPM's of the turbo, or from the hot exhaust gases or both? Also, in keeping with my original scenario...if I have the EB activated, allow the auto transmission to shift into second, lean into for WOT, and then completely let off throttle when almost...

Turbo Cool Down time after spirited driving??

Thank you for the tip. I always thought amsoil made great stuff and used it in my motocross bike religiously. Being used to air cooled and water cooled/no fan race equipment, I was always told that it was better to shut down ASAP as idling with no movement/air flow would cause it to overheat...

Turbo Cool Down time after spirited driving??

This truck is basically my Sunday car. My wife and I both drive older cars to work (I commute 80 miles a day, 4 plus hours in traffic). We work hard for what we have, so this is my Sunday/wedding truck, toy hauler, hot rod, road trip, and sometimes real work.... truck. Put about 6-7k miles a...

Turbo Cool Down time after spirited driving??

Thank you for the responses. So is a handful of times possibly not waiting long enough a death sentence for the turbo, or is it more a problem where every shutdown for the life of the truck is too quick of a shutdown? Do you think it’s worth switching to full synthetic instead of the T4 I’ve...
