    Good news Cp4 to Cp3

This is another money-grab lawsuit with little real grounding. Ford "knew" the CP4 would fail? Hmm. Did GM know it would fail too? What about the various Euro-diesels from VAG group being sold in the US for some years? Were they all failing too?

Yet the percentage of people with pump failures is quite low. How it was handled varied dealer by dealer...same as GM. You are correct that GM did seem to warranty more than Ford did. In fairness though, is it the manufacturer's fault that contaminated fuel was used which caused the failure? I...

    Good news Cp4 to Cp3

Thanks for the info - I replied before completely reading out the the end of this thread. I see its just a revised CP4. I guess my skepticism that this was in fact the case turned out to be correct. I have no relationship with Bosch in any way. Its just in my experience I haven't had problems...

Ford / GM / Dodge...they all are good trucks and get the job done. Depends upon your preference for styling and each have particular strengths and weaknesses. I've owned 6 Ford Super Duty trucks for my business; they were all very good. Gone now, on my second RAM diesel, plus one GMC. All...

    Good news Cp4 to Cp3

How do you explain the fact that some engines will go 200k+ and still be on the original pump, yet others (but very few) fail early on? Especially trucks sold in the same area getting fuel from the same places? Diesel doesn't ignite easily - it might find a hot enough ignition source under the...

    Good news Cp4 to Cp3

That would be me. I stand by my statement from a macro level; however...R Taylor, my condolences. I'm certainly not hoping for people to be harmed by this, just like I hope nobody's CP4 fails. Not on the same level of importance of course. In a similar vein, I've owned four Ford 6.7L...

I agree - but neither has happened to me, and it won't to most people.

    Good news Cp4 to Cp3

^^Exactly. The CP4.2 is the same pump on a 2011 Ford or Chevy as on a 2019 RAM. However, some changes have been made over the years...for example, the version in the Ford gained an increase stroke for model year 2015 to accommodate more power; however the Ford cab and chassis trucks did not get...

I'd say its regional; around here (NH/VT) its very Ford dominated.

    Good news Cp4 to Cp3

Does Industrial Injection have to meet EPA certification, which has become extremely strict as of late? If the CP3 can do it, why did Cummins change? What are the drawbacks of the CP3 vs CP4? Does not make sense...

    Good news Cp4 to Cp3

I'm happy to believe it with proof. The fuel system is the heart of a diesel engine, and I'm skeptical Cummins can meet both emissions and sound targets with the CP3...otherwise, there'd be no reason for a change. Cummins is not an ignorant company....they are well aware of the failures in the...

So, where are the 2500 numbers? That would be a heavy-duty pickup, no? Furthermore, where is Ward's getting this data from, since it appears at this time only GM is publishing a breakdown of truck sales by class. We can look at F-Series vs GM full size sales and Ford outsells both Chevrolet and...

I'm not here to argue, but don't kid yourself. Ford sells more heavy duty diesel pickups and medium duty than RAM does. There are vastly more Ford 550 Powerstrokes than RAM 5500 Cummins trucks.

    Good news Cp4 to Cp3

Three pages of hype, zero information to back it up...people waxing on and on about how great the CP3 is. I don't believe for one minute RAM is making this change, nor do I believe they will be "retrofitting" an older pump to a newer engine that was never designed for it. Show me the proof and...

Actually, the 2020 Ford is rated at 2600RPM. The 2018 Cummins was rated at 2800, but not the new one. I was surprised since all the Big 3 pickup diesels have been rated at 2800 for years now. I never had a problem with the TorqShift 6 in those conditions, but another advantage is that the Ford...

In my opinion (having owned four Ford 6.7L trucks)...this new 2019 Cummins engine has "as good" or even better throttle response than Ford. Vastly better than the throttle response in my 2018 Cummins I traded for my 2019. The one area (drivetrain wise) where Ford is still better is the...

Given that the 2020 6.7L PSD is indeed running 36k PSI, I guess Ford and Bosch figured out how to make it work. I'll be curious to see if Ford's fuel filters are different than what they were from 2017-2019. Hard to not be impressed by the V8 diesels. They are making the same or more torque...

I couldn't easily find that info. What I did find is that The CP4.2 can run up to 39k psi. The H.O. Cummins is operating at 29k psi. The new Ford with 1050lb-ft is operating at 36k psi. The Ford injectors are capable of 8 events. I would assume running quite a bit less pressure, the Cummins...
