    Engine started!!!

But it is chugging. It started out quite rough. I suggested we drain some crankcase oil since they overfilled it yesterday. Since it is up past the marks, I have no idea how far above "full" it is. It may be why it is blowing smoke. Plenty, white with a bluish tint. Doesn't smell like...

    Starter solenid wire missing?

Ha. Temporary connection to solenoid. Truck started. Starting new thread. snapped_bolt

    Starter solenid wire missing?

Hmmm... I can't seem to find a reference anywhere offering this solenoid push-on terminal for sale. Perhaps we will need a new positive battery cable assembly that would have one properly installed. Even so, I still can't find a reference that shows this wire included with the cable (coming...

    Starter solenid wire missing?

I got up the nerve ... to thread my arm under the brake cylinder and reached the wire bundle near the starter. There is a wire about 2-3 inches long that has no terminal on it whatsoever. Work should have stopped right there so a new terminal could be installed. Now I just need to find...

    Starter solenid wire missing?

Hi, This is a 2003 3500 2WD. I can't put it in my signature, it's not my truck! Thanks again, snapped_bolt

    Starter solenid wire missing?

Update... It appears that there is a connection missing up by the fuse box- there is a gray terminal with a large single spade connector hanging in mid air. It has a brown wire that travels up the battery cable and connects to the battery. The wire continues down another large cable toward...

    Starter solenid wire missing?

Hi folks! After a very long time in my driveway we are getting somewhere. We have done an engine swap, and it seems the starter solenoid wire is missing. Five guys were over yesterday, and when we got to this wire, none was found. I couldn't get in to see where this wire may have been...

    Small screws....

mwilson, THANK YOU for your response. My Cummins Quickserve doesn't allow me direct access to the page you posted, so I tried the part number in the "Search Parts Catalog" field and the entire exploded view showed up. Maybe it's a browser issue. I think once the owner sees the screws he...

    Small screws....

Hi, I need the 2 screws for the temp? sensor on top of the intake plenum.

    Small screws....

OK The number I use on Quickserve is 56965133. I haven't got a metric tap set yet. I am buying a milling machine today, so the tap sets and all the other et cetras are sure to follow... Thanks! -snapped_bolt

    Small screws....

I've managed to misplace four of them, and I haven't been able to find which size I need to replace them. These are the screws that attach the sensor to the top of the intake manifold. This is on a 2003 3500, 5.9. All stock. I can pick up some replacements at the local heavy-duty hardware store...

    #4fuel injecter line failure

That #4 does look like a spring.... And it would be relatively easy to get it to "sing". Perhaps the "spring" is enough to cause excessive vibration. The other lines do not have as much "spring" in their design. I am almost positive that the entire intake cover resonates uniformly, but #4...

    #4fuel injecter line failure

Since these are torqued fittings, grease is correct- if you don't grease them, the line would probably be preloaded. I am wondering why this location has more vibration than others...or is it the line length and/or twist? Anybody magnaflux one to find out if there are cracks from the factory...

    #4fuel injecter line failure

The Geno's Garage #4 clamp... Is that the updated version coming from a later model? Cummins Quickserve does not list this as part for the 2003 5.9. I ordered a full set of injector lines, and they list the 3957904, but when ordered I was sent the 5289447. This line is secured by what...

2003 5.9 High Pressure Fuel Lines

As I am thinking through... The CP3 that arrived on this engine also was "in a flood". The engine was run for an undetermined amount of time after the flood. The is rust spotting on the steel parts in spite of the protective coating. I opened up the fuel filter body and found a lot of debris...

2003 5.9 High Pressure Fuel Lines

Well, THIS sounds positive... As far as being the rebuilder is concerned. The owner may have to cringe once again. snapped bolt

2003 5.9 High Pressure Fuel Lines

Hi again, In my long-drug-out build of the 2003 5.9 I consider the "sterility" of the parts I will be attaching to the engine. The original lines that connected to the connector tubes were purchased new. The mechanic responsible for the mechanical damage to the parts should be arrested...

    Machine shop bewilderment

I have the block number, I used it to order the parts through Quickserve. This is a Common Rail. The way things are going, there will not be a whole lot left of what came in. The truck was running with it's orignal ECM. The number on the ECM matches the block. The parts removed from the engine...

    Machine shop bewilderment

Hi mwilson, I just wanted to know which block this cap came from. While scooping around in the leftover parts, I found this engine was also equipped with main bearings, made by Cummins, intended for another block altogether; it may be an another industrial app. For certain this will need to...

    Machine shop bewilderment

Hi again, It looks like this will go to a machine shop for boring. This engine also had a 3945669 for the thrust cap, which is for the 360-degree thrust bearing. It is definitely a Cummins part, but I am only getting industrial websites when I search. Why am I not surprised? It looks...
