When weather is cold cruise control doesn't engage..

Yea, it's an auto. Soon as I have a chance, this afternoon if the rain and snow holds off, I'll check out the vacuum pump. That cruise control doesn't engage in cold weather but will engage when the weather is warm is more a nuisance than a problem. Still, I want to get it figured out and fixed...

When weather is cold cruise control doesn't engage..

During warm weather the cruise control on my '03 Ram 2500 4x4 5.9 works as it's designed to. But once we get down to freezing and below the cruise control indicator light comes on but it won't engage and maintain speed. Any ideas where I should start looking for a solution? What components might...

    Cummins 100th Anniversary Celebration

What a fascinating, highly informative presentation that was. Thanks for linking us to it, and a big thank you to Cummins for the superb diesel engines we enjoy in our Ram trucks. May the next 100 years be as innovative and productive for Cummins and all of us as its first 100 proved to be..

Friend's offer to sell me his truck

Sounds like you did great on this deal. As long as the truck runs strong with everything working like it should, and you and your friend are both happy with the deal, it should be pretty much a 'win win' for both of you - you especially! Good on ya!..

'03 Ram 2500 QC Cummins 4x4 auto exhaust brake electrical issue..

Thanks again guys. The ground cable to the negative battery terminal connector on the driver's side is attached directly to the steel fender with a smaller ground cable. Running the short ground wire that NAPA's installer left unattached to the negative terminal on the battery, solved my...

'03 Ram 2500 QC Cummins 4x4 auto exhaust brake electrical issue..

You guys were right, pretty much as I figured you'd be. It was a ground issue. Went back through everything. Cleaned, re-tightened, passenger side battery hookups first, then the driver's side. Just about missed it again. After I couldn't quite imagine anything else being out of place, 'cause...

'03 Ram 2500 QC Cummins 4x4 auto exhaust brake electrical issue..

Thanks Ron and everyone. I'll get back to it this morning. Will check, clean and reattach everything. Have to pull a tandem axle flatbed trailer to west Phoenix early Saturday to help a family member move to a new place, and need to have this issue resolved by then so hopefully this will fix it...

'03 Ram 2500 QC Cummins 4x4 auto exhaust brake electrical issue..

Have nothing but good things to say about the '03 Ram 2500 QC Cummins 4x4 automatic I bought going on a year ago. Clean, solid truck, with everything working well - or at least it did until I went to our local NAPA and had two new batteries installed to replace the tired pair that came with the...

'Whoof, whoof, whoof' -- air release under passenger side battery..

I believe you. I lifted the hood, started the truck, then took a 20 second video of the engine running looking at the passenger side of the engine compartment and the exhaust brake actuator cylinder. It cycled, as you noted, three times shortly after the engine was started. Mystery solved and...

'Whoof, whoof, whoof' -- air release under passenger side battery..

I've read others who've said the same thing. I'll explore the issue a bit further before I decide, but I'm open to change if leaving it engaged makes sense. It's an interesting question in that it seems counter intuitive to have the exhaust brake continually engaged -- given that its purpose is...

'Whoof, whoof, whoof' -- air release under passenger side battery..

Wondering also, is it best to leave the exhaust brake engaged all the time, or use it only when needed? I've read some who say leave it engaged, and others who say not to. I haven't left it engaged, but I will if someone can explain why that works best -- if it does..

'Whoof, whoof, whoof' -- air release under passenger side battery..

I agree. I'll take a video late today and get it posted so you guys can see and hear what's happening..

'Whoof, whoof, whoof' -- air release under passenger side battery..

Wish I had a service manual for my truck so I could look up these things. I'll see what I can find out. I have to go to Show Low to find a good diesel mechanic, but I'll do that ASAP..

'Whoof, whoof, whoof' -- air release under passenger side battery..

This occurs, one cycle of three 'whoofs' of air, shortly after I first start the truck, and generally a idle. Never hear it afterwards and not when towing. The air cleaner box on my '03 Ram 2500 turbo diesel is forward of the passenger side battery at the front of the engine compartment. In...

'Whoof, whoof, whoof' -- air release under passenger side battery..

I changed the engine oil, installed a new oil filter, and checked the air filter prior to our recent trip. The air filter showed no soot and was clean enough to leave in place.

'Whoof, whoof, whoof' -- air release under passenger side battery..

I'm new to the Dodge turbo diesel, so excuse my ignorance and bear with me on this. We bought an '03 Ram 2500 earlier this summer to pull our travel trailer with. The truck was well cared for, in great shape inside and out. From the day we got it we noticed a strange 'whoof, whoof, whoof' sound...

Firefighter movie with a 3Gen C&C in it.

Probably the single most tragic event in Arizona's wildland fire fighting history. It impacted our state like a hammer blow, never to be forgotten. No desire to talk anyone into seeing the movie, but for me it was cathartic, answering questions about how and why it happened in a way that honored...

    new Truck

From what I've read the early 3rd gens do seem a popular choice. Having limited experience in this area all I can say is the '03 I purchased with 170k miles on it, having been extremely well maintained by its previous owner, has had just one issue pop up since I got it. Most everything about...
