Thank you for all of the replies. Second question is have any of you guys with 4.10 gears done any unloaded highway driving and still gotten above 20 mpg? I do tow but I also drive unloaded as well and would hate to give up the excellent mpg that I currently get.

My friend has a 1999 2500 4x4 with an NV4500 trans. He is replacing his clutch with a south bend and he asked me if he should do some kind of fix for the 5th gear nut problem. I have not owned an NV4500 for about five years so I am not sure what the best preventive fix is for this. Any thoughts?
