good afternoon, Getting ready to attach new hoses to my power steering. I replaced the gear box and pump already. Instructions say to reconnect everything, jack front wheels up, and turn back and forth to bleed. Can I do this prior to reconnecting pitman arm to the steering output shaft...

Been to 2 shops, no one knows the answer. Noise and vibration, tire wear pattern.

96 Ram 2500 very low frequency noise, intermittent, sounds like the rear of the truck. Slight sensation in the floorboards, when sound is audible. Sound on steady speed or acceleration, not on decel or downhill. It sounds like a whirring groan, each cycle is half a second with a quarter second...

Archived Replacing front axle ujoint, passenger axle wont insert fully

1996 4x4 ram 2500, why wont the passenger axle tube fully seat? I had it in 4x4, so i tried taking it out of 4x4, still not working. Any ideas? Just found a flashlight and looked in passenger side tube. The 4x4 collar that slides back and forth is not centered behind that seal, it is easily...

2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Front axle, will it be "locked" when engaged?

I was on some ice the other day, and put my truck in 4x4, and the left ties were spinning, but the passenger tires were motionless. Shouldn't the front axle, when in 4x4, be locked so both tires spin? Is it possible the axle coupler isnt working because the vacuum servo is broken?

    Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Slipping out of drive

Last week the trans in my 96 slipped out of drive. This has never happened before. It has happened three times now. It has not occurred while underway, just at a stop. At idle, in gear, i depress the throttle and the truck is in neutral. Would this be transmission problem (47RE), or...

Engine brake works sluggish and intermittent. I pulled the two hoses from the solenoid. Pulled vacuum on the hose from the bottom of the vacuum canister. Vacuum retracted the shaft, and then it held vacuum. Attached vacuum to the top of the canister. Vacuum extended the shaft, but would not...

    Need help with my Bronco

My son drives a 1987 Ford Bronco 5.0 liter EFI with auto trans, 4x4. It has a bad 'stumble' under accceleration and sometimes under cruise that feels like the trans is shifting very poorly. Loud hard thump. Sometimes downshifts with a hard clunk too. Fluid is the right color, doesnt smell...

    2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Disconcerting sound

My truck (1996) started whistling this morning on my drive to work. 12 miles, 50 mph. More noticeable at higher speeds. Sounds louder in my right ear. Shut off motor on safe stretch of road, no change other than i could hear it better. Not any louder with windows down. Sounds...

Wife bought me Hobart 230 Ironman for birthday

Very pleased with the gift this year. I have been welding at home 8-10 years. Got a big upgrade from the AC only stick machine and a flux core 110 v machine. So, about that bumper i have been wanting to make, and some decent step boards for the sides, front end shackles, a breather...

2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Brake pedal will go hard on 2nd press

If I depress the brake pedal, let up, and then depress it again very soon, it will sometimes go hard. So, I tried the tests to verify the booster, and it passed. I'm wondering if the booster check ball is bad? Is it possible this symptom would be a bad booster valve? This is not to...

2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Vacuum pump check ball? Do I have one?

I am going to be replacing vacuum lines. I read there was a TSB about oil vapor seepage into the vacuum system, so they came out with a check ball. How do I verify if my '96 has this update? I want to replace lines and keep (or obtain) the update. KRS

2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Success! Cleaned power steering pump valve body & screen

I have been wanting to use the instructions in TDR to clean the screen in the power steering pump. I accessed it from the top, no crawling underneath. Just an 18 mm line wrench, and a 1" socket on a 1/2" rachet. The hardest thing was getting that little screen/nut off! After i...

    Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Conoco Phillips Guardol ECT TI

I have been using Shell Rotella for years, but I'm thinking about a switch to: Conoco Phillips Guardol ECT-TI. I can get it cheaper, and locally. Unlike rotella, it's only avail in 15w-40. Anyone using this? It would be for the '06 5. 9 HPCR and the '96 5. 9 12v. Thank you, KRS
