Rack and Pinion Bolt - Socket Size?

For those of you with RWD (or those who simply know!), what size socket is required to remove the two large bolts securing the rack-pin in your vehicle? Also, what is the torque value on it? TYiA!

PS Spacer Dimensions -- Help Needed

Missing from PO. :( Apologies for the slightly blurred picture. 1996 Ram 2500. Chrysler part # 4429806 This spacer was used back in 1st Gen vehicles as well. I keep finding "Product Not Available" and "Discontinued" across multiple sites such as factorychryslerparts.com & moparpartsgiant.com...

    High Pressure PS Hose O-ring

Doing a PS flush. I think this o-ring has seen a few years. A) What do I replace it with? B) What type of material does this o-ring use? EDPM, Buta-N, Vitron...? The metal tube OD --> ID for the o-ring I measured at 9.2mm / .36" The o-ring thickness (in its squished state) I measured at...

    vacuum line repair

Cruise control now works! 1/8" inner diameter fuel line that came from a small engine repair kit for a weed eater. Heat shrink has the adhesive lining on the inside. I absolutely needed to heat up the fuel line, and I applied a bit of silicone to the vacuum line due to the tight fit.

    tappet cover torque, rubber deforming

18ft#. I tighten & tighten & tighten, but my torque wrench never clicks. How much deformation is normal? Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

    P7100 o-ring

Is the following p/n correct: cummins 3969698? This should be the seal for the p-pump to the timing case. Is it a square ring or a round ring? I've seen different prices on the web with the same p/n, and I don't know what it should be. Should it be replaced when the p-pump gets removed? I...

    P7100 tamper screw sizes

What is the size/pitch of the tamper screw holding in the AFC housing? Size/pitch of the tamper screw covering the smoke screw? S/p of the one holding in the diaphragm? I'm guessing they might all be identical. Do folks replace those screws with (8mm) bolts or allen bolts? I'm guessing the...

    Grid Heater Insulating Washer

There's 4 of them on our intake manifold. Two for each post. One of mine is in poor shape. Can these be ordered without having to buy the grid heater? If not, is a nylon washer a decent substitute?

    Cummins Apex Red 3163075

In case anyone's interested in what this color looks like: It'd be nice if Cummins would have their own color wheel. The tiny color mark on the can (all their paint cans have white caps) really doesn't give us consumers a good idea of what's inside. It's $16+ / can. That's about twice as...

    Gasket Manufacturers, Any Favorites?

(Cummins) Fel-Pro Interstate McBee Mahle Victor-Reinz Am I missing anybody? Who do you like best? Who should be avoided? I'll be needing, for starters, an intake manifold gasket & a tappet (aka pushrod) cover gasket. Trying to figure out whom to pick...

    Heater Lines Flow Direction

Do I have this right? Fluid flow to the heater core inside the cab comes from before the thermostat and gets dumped into the block...?

    Steel Injector Line Questions

First, some pictures: The dirtier of the two are the ones attached to the injectors. The other picture shows them at the p-pump. In 24 years, I don't think they've ever been removed from the truck. What I've labelled as "c", I'm calling a collar. That should move freely, yes? Does it...

    Testing for Boost Leaks

Setup: Start at the 4" dia. opening at the turbo. End at the 3" dia. opening just before the air intake horn. This tests the intercooler and 3.5 out of 4 of the couplings (you can't really count the last connection that gets plugged up for testing). Busting Myths: As I searched the interwebs...

    Hose for Wastegate, '96 HX35

    1) What kind of hose do I need to replace the one on my half-steel, half-hose wastegate line that runs across my engine from the AFC to the turbo? OD of the steel line is 1/4". Coolant hose? Fuel line? Something else? 2) I've seen many turbos that simply have a short hose from the intake...

    Injector Sizes

Since I'm in the market for some new injectors, I put together this list to help me compare all the variations out there. These are not flow rates, but rather the total area of the injector holes in square inches. These numbers come from pi*r^2*(number of holes). Stock = 5 x .010

Wiring Help, High Pressure Cutout, A/C

In the above pic, the connector in my hand is facing the wrong way. My apologies. I don't remember how they popped out. It's been a few months. I'm pretty sure it was my fault... On page 736 of the FSM, 8W-42-6, it shows my green wires, but I still don't know which side of the connector to...

    LED bulb for reverse lighting

Summary: This is an easy & cheap upgrade for those who still have stock tail light fixtures. While I could buy some cheap 17$ LED pods off of Amazon, and while I'd certainly like to have the 240$ Rigid Industries SR-Q Pro Back Up Light Kit, I took a different route: I replaced my stock 3156...

Should I lower My Fuel Pressure?

After "freshening up" the pre-IP components, I went from 8psi --> 27psi! Keep in mind the pic shows a steady needle. In reality, it bounces from 26-28psi, at idle, before it's warmed up. [Gauge on top of a snubber on top of the fuel filter.] [I keep forgetting to check it at idle once it's...

Replacing The Feed Line ['96]; Dissected Fuel Line

What's Really Inside After All These Years My truck is 22yrs old. While the steel lines look fine, once I replaced them I noticed a 3psi increase! Here's the inside of my steel fuel line. [The violet line: dremel cutting wheel has been consumed; turns out that was my last one! The green...

Stock Pre-Screen Filter ['96]: How many microns is it?

I plan on a heater delete as soon as the weather cooperates. One of my options is to bypass the entire assembly, but I would like to add an inline strainer of comparable filtration and flow. What I don't know are the filtration specs on our stock pre-screen filter. Any stats would be greatly...
