    Archived Lost Steering and Brakes

My dad in his 2012 3500 just went into a snow bank. Coming out it they notices a line was disconnected near the bottom of the radiator leaking fluid. He now has stiff steering and brakes and is 30 miles from help on the Utah/Wyoming border(Mirror Lake Highway). What would have affected both...

    Funny feeling in steering wheel

Update Found the same thing. Drivers side U Joint was toast. The passenger wasn't too bad. I ended up doing both U Joints along with the upper and lower ball joints since the upper had a little play in them. The job was no too bad. I used the power steering trick to remove the hub from the...

    Funny feeling in steering wheel

Update Got the front up in the air to inspect some more. Initially the wheel did not want to turn off of center. Once they came free there were no visible issues. Took it out for a drive and it feels the same. I wondered if the differential might be low. It is. Will fill it later and see if...

    Funny feeling in steering wheel

Me too. I have the same sensation through the steering wheel. It started suddenly over the weekend. When I inspected the front end I did find some play in the passenger side upper ball joint.

    muffler help

I beat the Cat out with it still on the truck. Not too bad of a job. Just get a shop vac with a long hose and when you think you are done start it up and rev it a few times. You wife won't approve of the noise or the mess but it werked fer me.

FREE Wilson Manifold's New Thrasher Intake System (Contest Ends: 04/30/09)

Count me in. Nothing I would like more than to add a real accessory to my 04. 5 truck. Other than the K&N and some nerf bars it's stock. Not that I don't want more but my 4 kids need to eat. As an engineer I feel I could give a technical evaluation without any of that damn emotional bias. :-laf

    Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) CAM Position Sensor Help

Cam Sensor Location I think on the '01 the cam sensor is locator just under the VP44 near the vacum pump. Not easy to access w/o removing the vacum pump. On my '00 the crank sensor is behind the starter.

    Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) CAM Position Sensor Help

No 0216 I did not have the "death code" as it is called. I had a 0336, 1689 and 1690. I think the last two are just communication codes. CPK/CKP is the Crank position sensor and is used by all the computer to run the truck. Mine would lose some power when the tach wasn't working. I replaced the...

    Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) CAM Position Sensor Help

Done Replaced the CPK sensor and the codes are gone. I'll keep my finger crossed that it is gone for good.

    Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) CAM Position Sensor Help

CKP Throwing P1689 and P1690 I've read through I don't know how many posts about the crank position sensor. The day I sold my father my 00 2500 the tach started acting up and the CIL came on. Cycled the key and got the P1693. It came and went for months. While we were replacing the vacuum pump...

2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Replacing airbags after crash

Seat Belts and Airbags Yes Bob, they are called load limiters they limit the loading on the chest and let the occupant ride into the airbag. That is why airbags are supplemental restraint systems (SRS). Most load limiters are just locked bars that allow the seatbelt to unwind at...

2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Replacing airbags after crash

Replace the belts. As an airbag and safety engineer I recommend you replace the seatbelts if they were worn during the crash. The seat belts have load limiters that release tension at a pre determined level. It is basically a torsion bar that yields under loading. As for the sensors they should...

    Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Fuel leak after FASS install.

Completed my FASS install today to correct low FP issues. Works like a charm 16 psi at idle and 12 psi WOT. The only issue some fuel dripping off the bell housing. Looks like it is coming from some where above starter. Everthing that I plumbed is dry. The only thing I can figure that since I...

    Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Commander fuel pressure

Just installed a commander with the FP add on from Quadzilla. FP reads 9psi at idle and drop to 0 at WOT. I didn't install the gauge in the recommended location on the lift pump. Instead I put it on the inlet to the VP44. After much searching and reading either my LP is a POS or my gauge...

2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission wife wants a tdi wv bug. is this a ok car?

Beware of VW quality. Owned a beetle TDI for two years. Yes the mileage was great but the repairs and maintenance were horrible. A cracked intercooler housing required replacing the entire intercoller at a cost of $400 for just the parts. When it started running poor I took it in and had had...
