Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Tranmisson : Truck wont move when tranmission when truck first starts after sitting?

If the truck has been setting for a day or more you need to start up, put it in neutral for 30-45 seconds and then put it in gear. Your check valve is sticking open allowing fluid to drain out of the TC. The check valve can be very problematic and is one of the primary causes of transmiision...

2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Windshield Wiper Problem

Thank you very much for the information. I'd be surprised if it were a mouse unless it's wearing a life jacket. It rains a whole lot here. I cannot afford to have someone look at it, so now that I know how to gain access I think I can do the job. Skip

2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Windshield Wiper Problem

On a recent trip my windshield wipers went out. Luckily it was the last 45 minutes of the trip; however, it was raining hard and created a real safety issue. I had just stopped for a cup of coffee, and everything was working fine prior to that, although I did notice the wipers appeared to have a...

    Flying J to Bio Blend

The newer Cummins diesels are designed to run on low sulphur diesel. The older ones, 2nd generation, are dependent on the lubricating qualities that were present before the production of the current low sulphur diesel. That lubrication was needed for the lift pump and the injection pump. Testing...

Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Anyone have know where to get battery cables?

I'd sure check out the farm supply store idea. The price really sounds good. I think I spent about $80 to buy the components to make my own. The heavy cable is what is really expensive. I also called a couple welding supply stores for cable prices. The biggest improvement for mine was the use of...

Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Anyone have know where to get battery cables?

You might try this website: Dodge Battery Cables from CustomBatteryCables.com. They make quality cables, but they are pricey and beyond my price range. I ended up building my own cables after using the old ones as a pattern, partcularly for length. You may be able to salvage some of the...

    Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Oil Pressure Sending Unit Question

Are there any opinions about going with a dealer or Cummins sending unit over going with an aftermarket part from a parts store? Skip

    Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Oil Pressure Sending Unit Question

Thanks for the responses. I checked at Cummins ($53. 00), Dealer ($47. 00), and at Wholesalemopar.com ($24. 00+$10. 00 shipping). I didn't call others about part cost yet. I really appreciate the idea of going through the wheel well---I hadn't thought of that. Skip

    Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Oil Pressure Sending Unit Question

I'm in the process of ordering and installing an oil pressure sending unit. From the search I did it looks like I need a specialized socket for the job. If the unit is the same size for a '95 as it is for a '98, I've read that the socket is a 32mm deep socket. Other places it is just referred to...

    Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) TC SLipping, or other

Thanks Bill-- Update----I pulled the pan, and the filter and pan were filled of metal debris. I called DTT and they were willing to send me a replacement TC, but not the transmission. Given that I'm stranded 1200 miles from home, I was not willing to hook up a new TC to a transmission that...

Archived Transmission Cooler Line Check Valve

Currently stranded in Mesquite, NV for 5 days. Transmission ate itself up. I'm replacing it, but need to put in a new check valve in the cooler line as it appears that was the cause of the failure. It's located in a transmission cooler line. I've heard it called a check valve, a ball valve, a...

    Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) TC SLipping, or other

I'm about 1200 miles from home pulling a heavy trailer. I just noticed, after dropping the trailer and going for fuel, that when I accelerate quickly that I get a roar from the engine an increase in rpm's but not extra torque or acceleration. It feels like the TC is slipping. This happens both...

1st Time 5th Wheeler - What to look for

Although the weight is important due to the specs of the truck, the floor plan of the 5th wheel is also very important. You can get an RV that weighs a lot, and doesn't meet your needs because of a floor plan that wastes a lot of space. So, get a ball park figure on how much weight you can...

1st Time 5th Wheeler - What to look for

Do all the calculations, and don't try pulling a trailer too heavy for your truck. Weight on a trailer equates to size of the RV. The biggest thing to consider is your comfort zone. You won't be in tune with that until you actually start towing. I started out being a nervous wreck, and...

1st Time 5th Wheeler - What to look for

Sorry about creating the confusion. The 14k trailer was a 5th wheel, and had a 2500# pin weight.

1st Time 5th Wheeler - What to look for

You're right about needing a specialty 5th wheel hitch with the short bed, or a king pin extension. My current 5th wheel, fully loaded weighs 11K. I've towed at 14K. I have air bags, and know that tongue weight would be about 1500 lbs. That would be the max for me.

    Best trailer tires and source?

I recently discovered something new to me about trailer tires. Most have a maximum speed rating of 60 mph. This is on my "D" range tires, "E" range may be different. I don't drive faster than 60 when pulling a load, but where the speed limit is faster than that it's a definite issue in creating...

1st Time 5th Wheeler - What to look for

After towing a 5th wheel trailer on a number of long trips, I'd share some basics on what to look for in weight and safety. To the dry weight of the RV, add the weight of all the tanks when full (black water, grey water, and propane). This will give you a real world idea of the weight before you...
