No Heat, Erratic Engine Coolant Temperature

Ok, so here's the final update. I went to my local auto parts store, bought a gallon (3. 78 litres in Canada) of premix, diesel coolant and proceeded to "top up". Well, I had to go back in for another gallon. I ended up using them both! How I didn't harm my engine is beyond me, but I had...

No Heat, Erratic Engine Coolant Temperature

Turns out I had a loose cap and yes, low coolant levels. So simple yet I would never have figured this out. TDR saves the day and saves me a dollar yet again. Thanks to both of you for taking the time to read this and reply. (I'm assuming that topping up will correct my problem, if I don't add...

No Heat, Erratic Engine Coolant Temperature

Brrrr... . I need some help and I'm thinking I have a thermostat problem. Here are the particulars... I have no heat coming from my heater vents. It's not ice cold, but it's nowhere near warm - this is day 2 or 3 of this. This morning, my 25 mile commute looked like this... Outside...

Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor & Code P0192

My truck effectively died last week and threw the P0192 code. Thanks to TDR, I found out it means "Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor Low". The symptoms were what many described - an old school diesel sound (loud, old Chevy diesel), intermittent gasping and shuddering, not starting etc. Not sure if it...

    Engine Maintenance Question

My '06 is coming up on 60,000 miles. I change all the fluids and filters when required. I used to have the valves on my '98 12 valve set every 60,000 miles. What is the valve set schedule for the '06? Anything else on the engine I need to maintain? Like injector, fuel pump, turbo, is there...

    Power steering fluid leak

I can get a pitman arm puller for $20 and I hope the box replacement will be pretty straight forward. I haven't had a good look at it yet but that lug "screw" might be a bit of head scratcher - there's no nut on it. You can see it just to right of the pitman arm connection - it attaches the...

wet steering box It seems to be wet all over.

    Power steering fluid leak

Stock tires on my rig. I had the same problem (among other steering problems) with my '98 CTD. That box rebuild looks like a lot of work. I might just go with a new box - with the core rebate, it's not that expensive. Herman8r, do you mind if I post a picture of my leaky steering box? (I don't...

    Power steering fluid leak

Herman8r, damned good question. I have a wet steering box too. My steering is really, really stiff when i'm parked on pavement (not moving). I pretty much can't turn the steering wheel unless i'm moving. My pump doesn't squeal so i'm guessing it's in the leaky box. I'd be interested to know more...

    sway bars or air bags?

I posted a new thread/question on identifying the 11. 50 and got this response from WoodChuck: In the glove box is a sticker that tells you what the truck was built with, or your local dealer can tell you based on the V. I. N. I can tell you for sure that the '06 has a 11. 5" axle. All...

    Identifying an 11.50 rear axle?

How do I know if I have an 11. 50 rear axle? I ordered a Hellwig swaybar, #7651 and it doesn't fit, though that's the part number for an '06 2500, UNLESS you have the 11. 50 axle. So, besides the swaybar not fitting, how do I check my axle size? I looked on the driver's door post. There are...

    sway bars or air bags?

I got the Hellwig #7651 last week, got out all the tools and set to work tonight putting it in. IT DOESN'T FIT. Apparently I have the 11. 50 axle, for that you need the Hellwig #7658. Argh!!! I live in Canada and now have to drive 60 minutes each way to mail this back and I don't have the...

    sway bars or air bags?

I ordered a rear Hellwig swaybar. I will post some thoughts after I install it and try it out. I remember my '98 Dodge 2500 CTD had a swaybar from the factory (it also had overload springs - maybe these items were part of the camper/towing package). Does anyone know if a Hellwig rear swaybar...

    sway bars or air bags?

Don't airbags stiffen things up too? Stop or reduce the roll?

    sway bars or air bags?

I live in a very winding and mountainous part of the world. I'm now pulling a 7500 lb boat/trailer. I don't know the hitch weight of my load but do know that I sway and tilt more than I want to. The boat doesn't wander at all behind me, the truck just tilts some in the corners. Do I stiffen up...

    throwing 3 codes

Thanks JWash1. Are you a Dodge mechanic? Is that where you got the codes? It looks like I connected the module poorly. I drove it two more times and and the check engine light went out - didn't have to reset it.

    throwing 3 codes

I've been searching for a code list for a 2006 cummins 5. 9L but can't find one. I just reflashed my Quadzilla Xzillaraider II and now i'm throwing three codes. It may have been from an improper initial reconnection of the module and I haven't disconnected the battery yet to try a reset. Can...

Cold Air Intake Article in TDR Issue 59

"I closed mine off with a plexiglass and routed a 3" tubing down toward the bottom so the engine will only ingest cold air. " That's exactly what I was hoping to hear. I'd love to see a picture of that... and this, "I bent my tubing and mounted it next to my plow mount. " LRutigliano...

Cold Air Intake Article in TDR Issue 59

Second Look I just opened the hood and had another look. When I take out the oiled filter and look straight down, all I see is pavement. The side of the new box fits into the stock (foam gasketted) cold air hole. But the hole in that side of the box is significantly smaller than the hole in the...
