    More first gen electrics

    It's a 92 D250 2WD automatic, thanks for your reply.

    More first gen electrics

I think that I have found the answer myself - He has 2 good videos on the same subject. Does anyone have a friendly Chrysler dealer so that if I post my VIN number they could get the part number for the "computer", SBEC or PCM for me? There are no American Chrysler dealers here in Ireland.

    More first gen electrics

My charge gauge on the dash is showing low charge but the truck is starting normally. The Wait to Start idiot light does not come on when you first turn the key but comes on when the engine is running and mostly stays on. Has anybody got any ideas? I have still not fixed the overdrive which i...

    No overdrive

I am sorry, what do IIRC and SBEC mean? Also what do you mean by make a jumper wire between the receptacles on the plug itself and why? I have been checking the wiring for any obvious breaks/chafing but not exhaustively and so far nothing obvious. I did not know about the ABS sensor so none of...

    No overdrive

Update. The TPS delete kit did not work. After reading around I realised that when the mechanic tested the OD he did it on the lift and that is wrong. So I took the vehicle home and first thing I did was repair the plugin connector/pigtail to the OD. The live was hanging on by 4 strands and the...

    No overdrive

Many thanks for your quick reply, I went back to the garage and he had got the shifter working properly, he said there had not been enough fluid in it but I think he had jammed something. I test drove it and the shift 1-2-3 is working normally. The trouble is the overdrive still does not work...

Sorry to double post but I can't delete the first comment Hi guys I need some emergency help. The truck is on the lift at the mechanic's garage. We changed the solenoid and 3-4 accumulator spring put everything back and four quarts (3.75 litres) of fluid now the truck will shift from park to...

Hi guys I need some emergency help. The truck is on the lift at the mechanic's garage. We changed the solenoid and 3-4 accumulator spring put everything back and four quarts (3.75 litres) of fluid now the truck will shift from park to reverse and work in reverse but we cannot shift into drive...

    No overdrive

I was thinking about it last night, I have the service and engine diagnosis manuals on a flash drive and a copy of Chiltons maintenance manual which I always take with the truck to the garage, the current lot are Polish and I suspect struggle with reading English. The Irish mechanics don't even...

    No overdrive

Obviously most American mechanics could do it. I have owned this truck for 20 years during which I have lived in England, Spain and Ireland. In England there is a healthy American car interest and I lived within five miles of a very good American car specialist and there are plenty of spares and...

    No overdrive

Hi The part was delivered yesterday, is it a simple job to put it in? Will an ordinary mechanic do or is it a job for an autobox specialist? If you can give me some simple instructions it will help me persuade the mechanic to do it. I would like to get the truck running with all four gears...

    No overdrive

Hi I got a mechanic to check the solenoid, and there is no sign of it working. So can you just replace the solenoid and is it a big job? Also where can I get the part? Also I need to replace the plug for the solenoid, can you buy a new one? I am looking into having the box rebuilt in any case...

    No overdrive

Cerberusiam, Many thanks for that very clear reply, I have replaced the VSS already (I always keep one in stock) and have ordered the TPS delete kit from Geno's Garage. The first TPS lasted 16 years the second has been in 12 years. If that does not work I will follow your recommendations or at...

    No overdrive

So the kickdown mechanism only changes from 3rd to 2nd or 2nd to first? And the downshift from 4 to 3 is controlled by the throttle position sensor?
  15. R

    No overdrive

On my 92 D250 I have no overdrive. I have checked the gearbox oil level. changed the speed sensor and given the TPS a clean, the TPS is about 12 years old but looked clean anyway. The truck still won't change up into fourth, can anyone help? I am a bit suspicious of the kickdown mechanism but I...

Why I cannot drive my diesel like my mother's car

If anyone wants to drive a great diesel car try a BMW 6 cylinder diesel. I have driven my mother's 99 530d mainly in the mountains and on Spanish autovias. Blasting up the Col de Puymorens (google maps) there is nothing like the mid-range torque to get you up the hill. I remember a 580 mile...

    4.10 to 3.54 gear swap??

Given your usage I believe you will be better off with a 3:54 rear axle ratio. I have never towed and if I did tow a big load I would go slowly and not far. With a 3:54 I can cruise on Irish highways at 70-75 miles an hour and it still runs sweetly if I let the speed creep up to 80+mph on the...

    92 D250 Battery specification.

I am based in Ireland, has anyone got a good link for converting American to European battery specifications?

    92 D250 Battery specification.

There seemed to be a lot of confusion in the thread. I finally mustered sufficient intelligence to look in the owners manual. On page 150 it clearly says minimum recommended battery capacity 1025CCA.
