2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission death wobble, pulling right, etc.

I know this post is after the fact, but I too have had a hard pull to the right several times with my truck. The right rotor would really heat up and the left one was relatively cool. I measured using infrared temp gun. Both times, the LEFT brake caliper went bad. When stopping, if you let go of...

    Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Little to no boost on 12V

Thanks for the pics. I'll put it on my to do list. A VW bug starter is the easiest one in the world to replace if you have the body off the pan. I think my truck starter will come off since it has been replaced before.

    2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission 94-01 Steering Wandering Count!!

1998 4x2 2500 Quad Cab, yes wanders all over the place at 189,000 miles on odo. How do we get our hands on the TSB for this?

    Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Little to no boost on 12V

Little to no boost problem fixed. During all this I learned that it takes burned fuel to spin the turbo first and then you get boost and then controlling from the wastegate controller. I'm sure this is obvious to most, but I had to learn it the hard way. I took the red scotchbrite pad and...

    Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Little to no boost on 12V

I got my new boot and solenoid saver diode from Geno's today. I'm also replacing the 70amp solenoid relay. I did notice some corrosion on the battery terminals, so I'll clean them as well. The parts pictured in the 2nd and 3rd picture look like they are held together loosely by the conical...

    Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Little to no boost on 12V

I pulled the solenoid off today. The boot is pretty much gone. I took some pictures. This one appears somewhat worn, but I'm not sure what a new one looks like on the inside. From what I can tell, the plunger (part that big spring goes around) kind sits at the mouth of the magnet until the...

    Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Little to no boost on 12V

I'm feeling pretty good right now. I started the motor today and checked the lever arm attached to the solenoid. It moves at least 1/2 " upward after the engine is started. What a difference this makes. My power is back. I can make 20" boost in 2nd gear with it matted with no weight on the...

    Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Little to no boost on 12V

I too thought of the fuel filter. I pulled it today hoping to find something, but it was fine. I went ahead and installed a new one. I think I may have found the problem. If not THE problem it is a problem. I stopped by the local diesel supplier in town today and talked to the counter guy...

    Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Little to no boost on 12V

Here's pics of the AFC housing I'm referencing and my test tool.

    Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Little to no boost on 12V

Thanks. This sounds like my problem. If I could get the EGT to rise abnormally or if I could get it to smoke, I would think it was something else. It's just not getting the fuel. To get to the diaphram for inspection, do I remove the flat head screws holding the cast housing where the...

    Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Little to no boost on 12V

I just found this link discussing the AFC and the diaphram. Turning up the pre 94 Ram diesel injector pump

    Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Little to no boost on 12V

I don't think I have any leaks in the ducting between the intake side of the turbo and the engine intake. The flex couplings look good and the intercooler appears to be good. I pressurized and sprayed everything down with soap solution to look for bubbles. I'm going to double check it tomorrow...

    Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Little to no boost on 12V

I removed the wastegate controller so i could check the movement of the wastegate and do a leak test on the controller. When I removed the e-clip holding the rod end to the wastegate arm, the controller snapped, so the spring is working as it should. In fact I had to pry the rod end off the...

    Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Little to no boost on 12V

I made the tool, put the air to it and cannot get any pressure to build up in the system. I using a more simple version of the tool pictured above. I simply plumbed in male air chuck fitting and am using my differential compression tester. I can control the pressure input from 10 to 100psi. I...

    Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Little to no boost on 12V

I need another tool anyway. I'm on it. I have most of the pieces I need. Just need to make run to Lowes. I'll let you know what I find. Thanks for all the good info.

    Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Little to no boost on 12V

So it uses air pressure to make the wastegate controller close the wastegate. What produces the air pressure? It looks like the rubber line attaches to the rear part of the AFC. Is there some type of pump in this? I'm planning to T a direct pressure reading gauge into the line coming off the...

    Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Little to no boost on 12V

I have checked the couplings and they look good. I have a stupid question. Is the wastegate controlled via vacuum? If so, is it possible my big head controller is bad? Can I hook up a vacuum source to check it?

    Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Little to no boost on 12V

Thanks for all the quick replies. I'll check the boot. It did not smoke when i drove it. I had to knock something loose when I dropped the filter. I'll keep you posted.

    Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Little to no boost on 12V

Allright, I´m a little confused on what has happened. I did an oil change on my truck and now I have little to no boost. the day before, it was normal. the only thing i did out of the ordinary was to drop the full oil filter when i was trying to pull it out. it came to rest on the frame upright...
