IIRC you can still over ride the auto high beam by flipping the multifunction switch to the low beam position when you detect the high beams inappropriately activating.

Maybe the truck driver responded to the inadvertent high beams by turning his headlights from the courteous-flash warm mode to the continuous retinal-roast mode along with unheard inappropriate vocal protests.;)
