your state's dot requirements should be on the internet. Most state's don't require emissions testing for diesel powered vehicles.

Some of the 3rd gens did have a replaceable cartridge type filter. I think the change was made in early 09. Mine had the old style that I upgraded to the one that used the replaceable cartridge.

You typically won't notice when the truck goes into regen. unless you have an edge insight or some other programmer/tuner to tell. I know i never knew when my truck went into regen.

I change mine every 7500 miles. as most of my driving is highway miles. Have never had an issue and hopefully never will in 60,000 miles.

I also went with the GDP kit. it's easy to install and service the filter. The mounting location on the engine looks to be designed for the kit.

I cleaned mine yesterday. Wasn't too bad but definitely dirty.
