    Rear diff pinion seal leak

Thanks all for the replies - home safe after a fun and exhausting long ski weekend! Beautiful sunny days and the truck got us there and back safe (as she always does, thanks in large part to all I've learned here at TDR). I think my plan is to keep an eye on it and give the shop that did the...

    Rear diff pinion seal leak

Thanks everyone, after further research I'm less worried about it. Diff was full. Modulite install was a success, so time to load up and hit the slopes!

    Rear diff pinion seal leak

So, last night while running some wire to install a Modulite, I noticed some dampness at the rear pinion seal on the rear end. It's definitely gear oil, but not even enough to drip after the truck has sat there for several hours. I had my ring and pinion replaced about 9 months ago. This was at...

    New rear end?

To clarify, he did pull the diff cover to inspect - didn't charge me extra from my original service and even refilled so I can take the truck if needed. He said there is wear to the faces of the gears I believe (I don't know rear ends well so may have missed some semantics. When he pointed it...

    New rear end?

So the same shop that fixed my no OD/Lockup problem let me know that I have a rear end issue. I rode with him while diagnosing the earlier problem with a code reader. He seemed to notice it right away. I'm probably just too used to it to really notice, but can kind of feel it coming on/off the...

    Transmission problem - no OD

Just an update - turned out to be a bad wire between (I'm pretty sure he said..) the PCM and the transmission. Problem solved, have more shiny new parts then I needed, but whatever :)

    Transmission problem - no OD

Purchased the above part and... nothing! Installed per Geno's instructions (very detailed and helpful by the way), but no change in condition. Any other ideas before I just end up dropping off at the shop? Does anyone have the troubleshooting algorithm for P0123? I got a bit excited at the...

    Transmission problem - no OD

Neighbor recommended a competent trans shop so I got it scanned this AM. Came up with code p0123. Also had a couple of cruise control related codes, but mechanic thinks they are related to the p0123. It it looks like I'm most likely looking at replacing the APPS... is there an option other...

    Transmission problem - no OD

Does anyone know if an Innova 3160 scanner would read this code from the PCM? I found a couple of reviews that sounds like it would. Or are we talking something more sophisticated/expensive...? I'm planning on limping the truck to a shop on Monday but I'd rather just get the code read and fix...

    Transmission problem - no OD

Well, is the transducer from the BD Diesel kit and the Borg transducer. No change. Can an anyone recommend a relatively inexpensive scanner that can access PCM codes to figure out the p0700? I don't want to throw too many more parts at it until I get a handle on that. How specific of a...

    Transmission problem - no OD

Thanks for the replies! What is a good code reader that can pull the pcm codes? This problem is killing me and my commuter car is also down right now! Ordered the BD kit and new borg transducer as well. I will change them and put in a new filter/fluid. I didn't track down an OD solenoid or VB...

    Transmission problem - no OD

On Wednesday I was taking off early morning for elk hunting (luckily just a day trip). Pulling on to the highway, the truck seemed to be shifting perfectly normal but would not shift into overdrive. The dash light is working but no amount of feathering the throttle or pushing the button on/off...

    Help me out with brakes

Sorry to ask about stuff that probably gets asked a lot - I tried searching and there was just too much info to sort through to figure it all out! My 2003 QCSB 2500 4x4 is getting close to needing some brakes. I just turned 159k, bought the truck with 120k and haven't personally had the...

    ABS light

Looks like the left front sensor is bad. Tested zero through left front, 1000 OHM through right front, and 1700 through the rear sensor. Thanks for the help with the wire colors. I'll pick up a wheel sensor and take it apart in the next couple of days.

    ABS light

Thanks for the advice so far. I could use a bit of help with the process of checking the sensors - that's charting new territory for me. If anyone has a diagram of the testing points or description of the procedure that would be great. I do have a capable multimeter. I might try my the trailer...

    ABS light

My ABS light came on the other day while pulling our travel trailer. It has stayed on ever since... I checked the fuses and they all look good. I've been trying to search around the net for a solution, but I'm still not sure where to start. It looks like the ABS sensors tend to go bad. Is there...

    Emergency Brake / Parking Brake

I meant the parking brake pedal goes to the floor, not the regular brake pedal. The parking brake previously worked fine - I just toasted the parking brake pads a few too many times due to the light not turning off (so I forgot to release the parking brake). It's funny how hard it is to notice...

    Emergency Brake / Parking Brake

Yeah, I haven't got around to that yet and I'm worried the pads are smoked anyways - pedal can go to the floor with nothing. I'd really like to figure out the parking brake dash light, but I'm kind of out of ideas!

    Emergency Brake / Parking Brake

Since I bought my 2003 Turbo Diesel about 2 years ago, the parking brake light on the dash has been on constantly. I tried changing out the switch on the pedal but no luck. After a few too many times of not releasing the brake, I think the parking brake shoes are toast (hard to tell that it's on...

    lie o meter

Sounds dumb, but make sure you didn't accidentally go metric system! It took me a little bit to figure out why my MPG's were going down when coasting and up when driving hard. I think the metric setting measures liters per 100km or something like that... so a higher number is using more fuel.
