Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Noob question: Why fresh oil stays so clean?

Thanks for the replies, very interesting. JR's explanation seems the most likely to me; I didn't know my truck doesn't have an EGR (shows you how much of a noob I am with these trucks).

Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Noob question: Why fresh oil stays so clean?

Thanks for the replies. Nobody knows? My Jetta wagon was a 2005, by the way. My Mercedes wagon was a 1983 (if I remember right). Both would totally blacken new oil on the first startup.

Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Noob question: Why fresh oil stays so clean?

I just purchased my 2001 with ~101k miles and did my first oil change with a Fleetguard filter. I have ~500 miles on that oil now and I'm stunned that the oil is still clean and transparent. I've owned two other diesel vehicles (a Mercedes wagon and a VW wagon) and in both cases the new oil...

2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Small electrical problem...

Well I got to pulling the lights off to have a look at the bulbs and it turns out this problem is not related to the bulbs - at all! It looks like one of the OEM wires serving the right-front turn signal got fried, possibly due to battery corrosion. So somebody cut it and patched in a wire...

2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Small electrical problem...

Thanks. I thought it might be related to the rear tail light. I remember dealing with problems like that back in the day when I was putting 1960s muscle cars back together from junk. I didn't realize more modern vehicles still had the same oddities. ;) I'll give that a look ASAP.

2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Small electrical problem...

I recently purchased my truck from the original owner and it's in great shape with only about 111k miles. But there's one little electrical problem I was hoping you experts could help with: When I step on the brakes, the right-front parking light illuminates (you know, the yellow light next to...

Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Advice on swapping rear end ratios...?

My truck has the 4:10 posi rear end. I'm interested in changing it to the stock lower gear ratio (is it 3:54..?) and I want to keep the posi. Is this possible, and how much would it cost? I don't mind using a used unit, but I'd have to pay a shop to do the work as it's beyond my mechanical...
