    Smogging Texas truck in California

So, this is kind of funny. I had to smog another vehicle yesterday and took it to my normal guy...the one who couldn't help me with the '05 CTD that started this thread. We started talking about what I had to do to get my truck smogged (BAR referee, 50 state etc). He logs onto the CARB site...

    Smogging Texas truck in California

Last update (for at least the next two years...) Truck now is registered and has its new CA plates. The BAR Referee was able to pass. I'm not sure I understand exactly what they based it on (well, besides the truck being smog compliant LOL), but he said something about "we entered it as a...

Used 3rg Gen prices just went stupid full speed ahead!

I'm in CA. A clean 2004.5 up 5.9 truck with low miles is an easy $28-35k, depending on trim level/options. My '05 2wd w/150k miles that I bought in TX a couple of months ago I could honestly resell at a $5-6k profit...that is, if I can ever get past the new OBDII test and get it smogged :(...

Used 3rg Gen prices just went stupid full speed ahead!

Yep...asking and getting are two different things. Although, prices around here for good 2004-2006's are a lot higher than they were two, three years ago.

But, the temptation would be to put a tune on the truck...and then have to rebuild the poor excuse of an auto trans the next month :)

    Smogging Texas truck in California

If any of the guys I know had a Smarty, I'd give it a try. But, seeing as I plan to keep the truck stock, it is hard to justify spending $495 on a programmer...unless I'm missing something?

    Smogging Texas truck in California

As an update: Brought the truck back to the dealer yesterday and left it with their diesel tech. He couldn't get the Dodge supported ECM re-flash called for in the TSB to get the Misfire monitor ready. He did provide me with factory documentation to support what he did to the truck and did not...

Great information. Thanks for taking time to post it up.

    Smogging Texas truck in California

We may end up in the Bend/Redmond/Sister area one of these days...but, I'm staying in NorCal where the jobs are, for now :)

    Smogging Texas truck in California

That changed May 4...it is now all three: Comprehensive, Fuel and Misfire for diesels under 14,000GVWR up to 2006. Later trucks can have one not ready, typically I think that will be the EVAP? I think I won't be the only one scratching their head on this one. :(

This is the only sticker on my valve cover. It just says "US EPA", nothing about California or OBDII.

    Smogging Texas truck in California

Don, the dealer isn't really my worry. They already did the reflash that the TSB called for (which I paid for, as the truck is not ETH) and have been fine. It may be that 200 miles isn't enough to reset the Misfire monitor, but I think that is unlikely. My worry is how the BAR looks at this...

    Smogging Texas truck in California

Not sure if "no room to move" means they have to pass or they tell me tough luck :( Also not sure how I can get the Misfire monitor to reset. The TSB that is out there seems specific to the Comprehensive monitor. The MIL test says the truck is ready, no CEL, no codes being thrown. 2 out of 3...

    Smogging Texas truck in California

I understand that the OBDII testing was not being done in 2004-2005. But, the fact that Dodge issued what amounts to a perpetual TSB on California trucks after they were out of warranty could be seen as admitting that they had missed the ball. If they honestly felt there was no legal or brand...

    Smogging Texas truck in California

update: Misfire monitor still shows "Not Ready" after 200 miles. It also appears that the ECM flash the dealer did may have effected the AFR or something similar, as I now am getting black soot/residue on the quarter panel and bumper near the exhaust exit, which I had never noticed before the...

Clunking in left front floor board

On a 2wd double A-arm, there are no bushings on the hub or axle side, only ball joints. I think we're talking two different things, here. I immediately thought the OP's truck was 2wd, because that's what I have.

Clunking in left front floor board

Not sure what you mean by "frame side". All control arm pivots are frame or crossmember side. If the truck is 2WD, I'd expect the deflection of the control arm allowed by a bushing bad enough to "clunk" to have enough of an effect on toe to be felt. That's been my experience, anyhow. 4X4 I'd...

Clunking in left front floor board

I'm not sure I've ever seen a control arm bushing far enough gone to allow a "clunk" that couldn't be felt through the steering wheel. Is the truck 2wd or 4X4?

Clunking in left front floor board

Feeling it or hearing it? Have you had others in the car when it is happening? Reason I ask is because it is sometimes hard to isolate where a noise is coming from if you're doing it just from the driver's seat. The source could be behind you and you'd still feel it through the floor pan, quite...

    Smogging Texas truck in California

My plan is to put a few more service cycles on it, bring it to the smog guy Saturday for a free re-test and see where I'm at then. Problem with going back to the dealer is TIME... p-Bar, thanks for the letter. I think there's going to be some discussion regarding the fact that Dodge has the...
