Alignment and heavy camper on the rear AKA heavily loaded.

David, you mentioned some concern about the amount of weight on the rear of your truck related to steering as well as tire wear. I’ve nothing to add to the tire wear issue. I’ve hauled an Arctic Fox 990 truck camper a number of years and for the past five a 1150 which is basically the same...

    Variable speed wiper issue

I had the same issues with my multifunction switch that resolved after cleaning the contacts. It was an easy fix. I found a detailed instruction with pics at How To: Multifunction Switch Remove/Clean/Install - Dodge Diesel - Diesel Truck Resource Forums. The first post had some problems with...

    T-case plug deforming

Thanks, Ozy. I heard about using a torx but wondered if that would only make it worse. If I can't get a good fit with the metric I'll give a tight torx a try.

    T-case plug deforming

I've tried several 3/8 Allen/H-10 sockets on the fill plug for my NV273D t-case but all have a little slop as they don't fit tight in the plug. Now one of the flats on the plug is beginning to round out from one of the corners of a socket. Any suggestions as to how to get an Allen fitting to...

Leak between transmission and transfer case

I’m leaking ATF thru what looks like a weep hole between the 48RE and NV273D. What’s the likely cause? The weeping seems continuous with the truck at a slight incline in the driveway. I assume there is at least one seal on either the transmission output or the t-case input… or maybe one on each...

Front driveshaft double cardan greaseable u-joints

Thanks guys. On second look at the front axle it seems it would be a real PITA to access any zerk on the joint closest to the transfer case.

    Difficulty removing harmonic balancer

Although the "strap wrench" worked there was still some rotating of the balancer and it took a great amount of torque to break each bolt free. Could this process damage the rubber dampener? I know anything is possible but not knowing how these things are put together I wonder how likely it...

    Difficulty removing harmonic balancer

FLUIDAMPR INSTALL 5.9 CUMMINS the EASY way-YouTube located at shows using a ratchet strap to keep the harmonic balancer from rotating. He demonstrates the process at both the 3:00 minute and 12:00 minute marks. He also mentions the key is to not secure the ratchet part of the strap in-line...

    Difficulty removing harmonic balancer

Thanks Timd32, I saw the Amazon listed barring tools. I admit to being a little leary of putting a lot of torque on those for fear of them breaking or chipping. I did just finish seeing a youtube where a guy showed how to rig a ratcheting strap to hold the balancer fast to remove and...

    Difficulty removing harmonic balancer

Darkbloodman, So no pry bar to hold the stamped steel harmonic balancer in place while I'm pulling a long socket handle to loosen the bolts. You said, "Soft taps to get it off, keep in mind it's not meant to take impacts..." I know I need to be careful to avoid damaging the harmonic balancer...

    Difficulty removing harmonic balancer

Good idea. I was so focused on the front side didn't think about the back end of the crank shaft. Is it unusual for the crank shaft to spin like this?

    Difficulty removing harmonic balancer

Difficulty removing harmonic balancer Trying to replace the front crankshaft oil seal and having difficulty removing the harmonic balancer. The harmonic balancer spins when I try to remove the mounting bolts. I haven’t seen this issue in any of the youtubes or forum writeups involving the 5.9...

Front driveshaft double cardan greaseable u-joints

Thanks for your response. I'm always interestedi in your opinion. I've run into the fitment issue. Although Spicer provided external spring clamps in three diff sizes I still had to plane down their thinnist spring clamp to be able to insert it.

Front driveshaft double cardan greaseable u-joints

It's time to rebuild the front driveshaft and I want to replace the non-greaseable u-joints with Spicer greaseable u-joints. Is there any particular need-to-know in orienting the new u-joints so their zerks won't interfere with the spining of the double cardan? I assume the zerks need to...

OEM rear leaf spring capacity for dually

Thanks for the reply. I saw various weight ratings for the four lower springs as a unit as well as the two upper springs as a unit. I have not been able to find any weight rating for the mopar pn 52113320AE which is all six leafs as a single unit. From the weight ratings we have found it...

OEM rear leaf spring capacity for dually

Anyone have a reference for the capacity of the OEM rear leaf springs on the 2006 and 2007 3500 5.9 CTD auto transmission 4x4 long wheel base duallies? Attached is a pic showing the 3 leaf pack with the lower helper spring and the two upper overload springs. Thanks

    Heater Core Tube

Last year I found Cummins to have much better prices than the dealership, including the on-line dealers, for this tube and the associated silicon tube mentioned above. They also had best price for the exhaust manifold gasket, manifold studs and bolts and the manifold bolt locking tabs. I was...
