    Fuel Tank Questions

Also, now I understand why, when I fill it up, the fuel gauge stays on Full for quite a while, then drops pretty fast. Seems like the float for the sender is pretty generic, spring loaded and all. The tank is 14 1/2 inches deep, and the float only goes up to about 3/4 of a tank before it's...

    Fuel Tank Questions

I must say, I'm happy to have done this job. I looked down into the pump enclosure today, and it's pretty grim down there.

    Fuel Tank Questions

Thanks for this. These thoughts have crossed my mind, the possibility that I'm going through the struggle of replacing a perfectly good pump and that the dummy light is still going to glare at me, but at least I'll know the age of the lift pump. I'll cross these bridges when I come to them...

    Fuel Tank Questions

Okay! Thanks for the info. I think I'll do like Ozy said. a little vacuum line and a cheapie filter will give me a little peace of mind.

    Fuel Tank Questions

2004.5 4x4 6 speed manual Hey everybody. I've really learned a lot about this truck here, thanks to you guys. This project:https://www.turbodieselregister.com/threads/preparing-for-a-pretty-big-trip.272221/ is what I'm dealing with now, but I wanted to start a new thread due to the fact that it...

Preparing for a pretty big trip.

Boy oh boy... This is why I love forums. I'm now saving money on gauges, and I'm the proud new owner of a Pac Brake that I am going to install pretty quick here. I also just put one of the BD low fuel pressure led idiot lights in my shopping cart. That really seems like a good plan. I'm also...

Preparing for a pretty big trip.

So, here's the back of my oem filter housing. Apparently this is where the lift pump is supposed to be. The second picture shows where the lines terminate on top of the tank. So, any guesses what's in there? I'm considering running it low, dropping the tank and having a look.

Preparing for a pretty big trip.

Again! lots of great info. I'm already running the Baldwin PF7977. I buy them in quantity and always keep a spare in the truck. I swap in a new one every oil change, at 5000 miles. Blackstone said I could run the oil longer, but I won't. Also use the 4" air filter. When I saw the choice, it was...

Preparing for a pretty big trip.

Hmm. So I must be misinformed. I was under the impression that if fuel pressure falls, or injectors plug up, that it would create a lean condition, leading to elevated EGTs and eventually valve failure, even engine failure. None of those things ever happened to the big trucks I drove, over...

Preparing for a pretty big trip.

Wow what a nice response. Thank you all for the good suggestions. The truck is pretty stock. It has the exhaust I mentioned earlier, and the guy had put a tune on it with a thing called Hypertech. He said he tuned it for economy, but the tuner gadget is long gone. I'm super satisfied with it's...

Preparing for a pretty big trip.

Hey y'all. I've got a 04.5 2500 4x4 with the 6 speed manual trans that I've had for a couple years now. I've been doing what I know in preparation for some fairly heavy towing. We have a 32 foot fifth wheel that we're going to pull from Southern AZ up to Alaska and back this summer. The truck is...

    NV 5600 sticky shifting

Does yours get worse when it's hot? This one is super smooth when cool, even when hot, as long as it's running light. But when it's pulling heavy it starts acting up.

    NV 5600 sticky shifting

Mileage is 176000. No idea on the clutch. Bought the truck with 165000 only a couple years ago. I did talk to one of the previous owners who said he bought it at auction with a broken transmission, and he rebuilt it. (He said he owned a transmission shop.) but he didn't say whether he replaced...

    NV 5600 sticky shifting

Hello. I have a 04.5 2500 4x4 with the NV 5600 6 speed manual that I use to pull our 32 foot fifth wheel. I've only pulled the trailer 3 or 4 times yet, but from the beginning, it seemed like as soon as it got hot, the transmission was almost impossible to shift. It shifts excellent all the time...
