Not excited about the aluminum head either. If they are trying lose weight, do it somewhere else.

2025 Ram/Cummins: Sifting Through the Rumor Mill and the “Truck Show” Podcast

The "trukstuf" guy says he's seen more "inspection holes" in the CGI blocks than ANY iron block. Weight savings in a 7,000# truck? LOL

2025 Ram/Cummins: Sifting Through the Rumor Mill and the “Truck Show” Podcast

That they are going to an iron block speaks volumes imho. Cam/Roller lifters are still a real issue. Transmissions? Hopefully the new ZF unit will fix that.

2025 Ram/Cummins: Sifting Through the Rumor Mill and the “Truck Show” Podcast

Anciliaries are important but the mechanicals like the silly hydraulic roller lifters and main cap issues + transmissions are the meat and potatoes. I've been shopping and it's a fact that the local dealer can't give the new ones away. When I see inspection stickers running from 6 to 10 months...

Fragile as heck. I’d like to have a friend make a mold of it but logistics are off the hook as far as shipping it. He’s an incredible fabricator who understands all aspects of the process of making molds.

    Power steering hoses

A good hydraulic hose repair shop can make these. Ask a farmer who he uses.

TV Cable Adjustment and Cruise Control Cable

Upon further review this setup seems to be SOP. Sloppy, yes, but apparently it's how it was done.

TV Cable Adjustment and Cruise Control Cable

Not knowing any better I "assumed" my quick to shift and generally uncooperative nature of the kick down I chalked it up to an "old truck". Was watching some YouTube videos and found Ovens Garage. Watched the video and then went to the garage to eyeball the TV Cable on my truck. It was up...

    Front Shock Absorber Bolt Replacement

Thanks. The shocks on the truck were pretty decrepit. They weren't shot but they were tired.

    Front Shock Absorber Bolt Replacement

About 1" at the widest point. Hole is 1/2". The Upper and Lower bump stops are intact and in remarkable condition. These more or less fell out when the old shocks were removed. Found them on the floor after the fact.

    Front Shock Absorber Bolt Replacement

One more thing. Two of these dropped out of the spring perches when I removed the shocks. They are shot to pieces but I wondered where they may have come from. The old shock still had their washer and bushings. May these were part of that but no clues here. Thanks! PS: Got it all...

    Front Shock Absorber Bolt Replacement

Torque on these is 200 inch pounds seems awful low but that's what I've read. I've see this rounded up to 17 lb/ft as it's actually 16.66.

    Front Shock Absorber Bolt Replacement

Did a partial thread allow enough purchase on the captive nut? I'm going to measure this because the McMaster-Carr 2" flange bolt is partially threaded and the flange is around 17mm. The original captive washer is about 19mm. The photo illustrates plenty over coverage.

    Front Shock Absorber Bolt Replacement

Thanks! Now that I know the right size this should be easier! For what it's worth I used an old trick of heating the original bolts (not too hot!) and dipping them in old motor oil. Puts a black oxide finish which isn't "forever" but at least they look better. lol

    Front Shock Absorber Bolt Replacement

Anyone have a source for the 5/16-18 bolts for the front shocks? They have captive washers and are discontinued according all sources I’ve checked. McMaster and MSC have nothing. Dorman sells them with no washer. I may end up with these and some sort of tight tolerance washer. I edited the...

How does the Cummins emission fine affect us as owners?

I'm waiting for the class action lawsuits which should be forthcoming. It didn't go well for VW. "The company (VW) previously agreed to pay more than $20 billion in criminal and civil penalties and settlements to U.S. federal regulators, states, dealers and owners. Worldwide, it has paid out a...

Choate Video on The Diesel Podcast

Caught this recently and it sure cooled me off. This is from The Diesel Podcast and Choate Performance Engineering: Go to about 46:00. Losing weight wasn't necessarily a good thing. Weight Watchers Diet: FRETTING:
