Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Oil leak on front of engine, above and right of fan

HeavyHauler, the breather hose on my truck is on the drivers side towards the rear of the engine. I don't remember how high up the side of the block it attaches. It's hard to see from above, but from under the truck it is pretty easy to spot. My truck is four wheel drive, and the hose originally...

Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Oil leak on front of engine, above and right of fan

GWilber was right. The "puck" is actually a cap that screws onto/into the cover that is in front of the fuel injection pump. Mine easily unscrewed by hand. I cleaned it and the mating surface and re-installed it. I suspect it was leaking because it wasn't tight enough. The seal looked okay...

Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Oil leak on front of engine, above and right of fan

I have edited the orignal post to better explain where the leak is coming from. I don't think it's a crank case vent because there is no way to attach a hose to it. If it is some kind of vent, I wonder why it has started dripping oil at the 121,000 mile mark. Does anyone else have oil coming...

Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Oil leak on front of engine, above and right of fan

Thanks for the reply HeavyHauler. There is no curved hose coming out of the "puck". Unfortunately I didn't do a good job of describing where the leak is. I'll try again. You can see the spot by standing in front of the truck and looking over the radiator and fan shroud. The "puck" sticks out of...

Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Oil leak on front of engine, above and right of fan

During an oil change today I spotted oil drops forming on the oil pan mounting bolts. I followed the trail of oil up the front of the engine to a spot on the "timing cover" (don't know if that is really what is behind the cover). The spot is a little higher than the fan shaft and a few inches...

    Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Where is oil pressure sending unit on 98.5?

My oil pressure gauge is dropping to zero and bouncing back to normal in all driving modes. Based on the threads I've read, I assume it's the sending unit. Oil level is fine, and the engine sounds and performs normal. I think I have spotted the sending unit, but want to confirm its location...

Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Does the air filter minder really work?

Quite awhile back, at almost 70k miles, I decided to change my filter, even though the filter minder didn't indicate it. I was afraid the filter minder was defective, even though I had read that you should just let it do its job. The filter looked pretty dirty and I felt I had made a mistake by...

    Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Fuel filter canister won't re-fill.

Gary, if I understand you, if the ball valve was working properly, I should be able to push against the ball and get it to move away from the seat and it should move back against the seat when I release it. In my case, the end of the spring that rests against the ball has either broken off...

    Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Fuel filter canister won't re-fill.

Gary, I opened up the pump. The inside looked very clean to me. A slight varnish type discoloration on parts of the impleller blades. The blades move easily inside the slots. The screen was perfectly clean. I could see the by-pass ball. It was pushed all the way towards the motor and I could...

    Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Fuel filter canister won't re-fill.

Before putting in the new lift pump, I checked the voltage going to the pump. After bumping the ignition, the voltage was 12. 4. I was surprised when the voltage only dropped to 9. 0 after about 20 seconds. I expected it to drop to 0. 0. Is this normal? The voltage at the batteries was 12...

    Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Fuel filter canister won't re-fill.

Thanks for the input. I'll put on a new pump. What fails in the pumps? I was confused by the Cummins mechanic telling me that if the pump motor is running, the pump will move fuel. Merv and Ncostello, it sounds like there should be 12 volts at the pump. Thanks for telling me. I'll check it.

    Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Fuel filter canister won't re-fill.

Don't want to beat a dead horse, and I have gone back and read some old threads, but still have a problem/question. I changed the fuel filter (Removed old filter, emptied canister and wiped clean, installed new filter and re-installed canister. ) and tried to re-fill the canister by cracking...
